As a Staff Engineer at AffiniPay the buildout of our DLS implementation would be your first big project requiring all of your technical, organizational and leadership skills. You will have influence over all aspects of Front End development performed by AffiniPay’s 150+ engineers. Most importantly, you will have purview over the implementation of the DLS being built by our Design team - both the development of the components that support the DLS and the strategies and processes that will make it effective over the long term. You will be involved in every significant architectural conversation and your voice will carry weight with Engineering, Product and Design. You will likely build a small team that will help you scale your coding skills, but you will largely lead through influence and reputation, as the best Staff Engineers frequently do.

Our ideal candidate will have a deep technology background (specifically with various front end technologies), strong UX thinking, a passionate focus on hard technical problems at scale, and ability to collaborate with many teams and stakeholders to make a significant impact on the business and what we deliver to our users. This position is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and proven expertise to a first class engineering team located across the country.

Your day to day:

  • Align on priorities.
  • Review design proposals; guide the team on DLS alignment.
  • Code review and architecture planning.
  • Hands-on coding to build and refine our DLS.
  • Sync with cross-functional teams for smooth project flow.
  • As our first front end Staff Engineer, anticipate requests for advice and mentoring from around the org - manage your time effectively!


  • Lead the architecture, and implementation of our Design Language System (DLS).
  • Collaborate with our Design Team to translate design vision into functional code, ensuring seamless design-to-code transitions.
  • Mentor front-end developers on best practices, code efficiency, and emerging trends, raising the bar for technical excellence.
  • Work closely with back-end teams to develop a cohesive tech stack that aligns with front-end needs.
  • Conduct regular code reviews, emphasizing modularity and future-proofing.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate front-end tools, libraries, and frameworks.
  • Drive continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) initiatives for front-end code.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation for the DLS to ensure long-term maintainability.
  • Create prototypes and MVPs for new features or products, aiding in stakeholder buy-in.
  • Ensure web accessibility standards are met across all projects.
  • Act as a key liaison between product managers, designers, and developers to ensure project timelines and deliverables are met.
  • Stay current on industry trends and technologies, and be prepared to align our tech stack with what's emerging.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years in front-end development, SaaS model preferably
  • 2+ years focused on DLS or similar systems, preferably supporting a larger team
  • Mastery of React, Vue, or Angular
  • Proven ability to lead a small team and execute on large-scale projects
