Purpose of the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Investment Risk Oversight professional. You will assist in the management and delivery of an effective Investment Management Oversight programme of Apex FundRock Ltd and FundRock Partners Ltd (together “Apex FundRock”) fund hosting operation.
You will work in a team responsible for monitoring and analysing investment risk exposures across portfolios and ensuring compliance with regulatory and prospectus risk limits.
The role covers the oversight of existing and potential investments held by delegated investment managers, the management of external monitoring requirements of trustees/depositaries, fund auditors, internal audit and the regulator, and facilitation of review, reporting and escalation requirements to various governance committees.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of post-trade risk monitoring, analysing global exposure, calculating Value-at-Risk (VaR), AIFMD leverage requirements and liquidity risk management and best practices in portfolio risk governance. The candidate must demonstrate good understanding of various asset types including Bonds and Derivatives, investment operations and experience working with asset managers, custodians and other key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
· Global Exposure and AIFM Leverage Monitoring – Calculate and monitor global exposure of funds using both commitment and VaR methods. Ensure accurate leverage calculations under AIFMD regulations including both Gross and Commitment methodologies. Monitor fund compliance with regulatory and prospectus thresholds.
· Value-at-Risk (VaR) – Perform VaR calculations and review using MSCI Risk Metrics or any other third-party system.
· Liquidity Risk Management – Monitor and assess portfolio liquidity profiles, including asset and liability liquidity mismatches. Conduct liquidity stress testing and scenario analysis in accordance with regulatory requirements (e.g. AIFMD, FUNDS, UCITS etc. Liquidity Rule. Monitor liquidity buffers and redemption profiles to support liquidity risk oversight.
· Risk Reporting – Generate regular and ad-hoc risk reports for senior management and governance committees. Enhance risk reporting process, implement and support automation for reporting efficiencies
· Post-Trade monitoring – Conduct daily post-trade (FCA COLL - Investment & Borrowing Powers) analysis of portfolios to ensure adherence to risk limits and guidelines. Identify, assess and escalate breaches or risk limit exceptions and support resolution.
· Due Diligence & Risk Assessment – Conduct initial and ongoing due diligence visit & reviews to assess investment managers’ operational and compliance capabilities. Review and assess investment policies, governance structures and regulatory compliance. Develop and maintain close working relationships with delegated investment managers;
· Regulatory Compliance - Ensure that funds comply with regulatory, scheme documentation investment limits and eligibility assessment. Review, analyse and report to all parties breaches of any risk limits.
· Deal with routine and ad hoc queries from sponsors, investment managers, depositaries and other third parties;
· Liaise with appropriate firms who support the team: e.g. custodians, fund accountants, fund auditors and lawyers, as directed;
· Keep abreast of regulatory change.
Key Attributes and Qualifications:
· Degree educated in Finance, Economics, Mathematics with further professional qualifications (e.g. IOC, IMC) an advantage;
· A minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience of working in financial services in investment risk oversight, liquidity risk or asset management risk functions.
· Excellent knowledge and experience of the UK regulatory environment and rules prescribed in the FCA Handbook, in particular the, CIS, COLL, FUND, COBS and SYSC sourcebooks; and demonstrate knowledge of international investment regulations e.g. ESMA, AIFMD etc.
· Demonstrate good communication skills, both written and oral and be able to converse internally and externally with personnel at all levels;
· Independent thinking to find efficient and innovative ways to solve problems;
· Meticulous attention to detail;
· Proficiency in investment monitoring systems, liquidity and risk analytics tools, compliance platforms e.g. MSCI Risk Metrics; High Wire, Charles River or Aladdin
· Proficiency in Excel is a requirement. In addition, an understanding of data analysis tools / methodologies (e.g. macros, Python, SQL, VBA) is a plus
· Ability to function in a dynamic and ever-changing environment;
· Strong multi-tasking abilities; able to juggle conflicting priorities;
· Have a proven hands-on attitude, be flexible and adaptable;
· Observation of proper standards of market, business and personal conduct, demonstrating integrity in the execution of duties;
· Respect the Apex FundRocks’ approach to client care and demonstrate due regard to the interests of the clients in any and all third party dealings;
· Good IT skills – intermediate Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook;
