Role Purpose

The AML Analyst will support Apex Unitas Limited’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Financial Crime Compliance framework by conducting customer due diligence (CDD), ongoing monitoring, and supporting client enquiries related to AML requirements. The role ensures compliance with internal policies, UK regulatory expectations, and global financial crime standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. AML / CDD Duties

· Conduct Customer Due Diligence (“CDD”) and Enhanced Due Diligence (“EDD”) for new and existing clients.

· Verify client information, beneficial ownership, and control structures in line with UK AML regulations.

· Conduct screening for sanctions, PEPs, and adverse media, escalating results where appropriate.

· Assess Source of Funds (SoF) and Source of Wealth (SoW) with supporting evidence.

· Maintain accurate, up-to-date client files in line with record-keeping requirements.

· Review and resolve discrepancies identified during onboarding or periodic refresh.

· Monitor transaction activity for unusual or suspicious patterns and escalate per procedure.

· Ensure client mailbox is monitored daily to ensure new investors to be onboarded and any client enquiries are completed within set time periods, in a professional manner.

2. Client Enquiry & Support Responsibilities

· Respond promptly and professionally to client AML enquiries, providing guidance on CDD requirements, document standards, and onboarding expectations.

· Clarify documentation requests and regulatory obligations to ensure smooth and efficient onboarding.

· Liaise with internal teams (Onboarding, Client Services, Fund Administration) to resolve issues affecting client experience.

· Maintain high levels of service, ensuring clients understand timelines, outstanding items, and next steps.

· Support clients when regulatory changes impact AML requirements (e.g., updated BO rules, sanctioning rounds).

3. Internal Collaboration

· Work with Financial crime team to ensure consistent application of policies.

· Provide feedback to the MLRO on recurring issues or process improvements.

· Support team workload distribution, prioritising risk and deadlines.

· Participate in internal AML projects, system migrations, or testing of new compliance tools.

Essential Skills & Experience

· Awareness of UK AML regulations, including CDD, EDD, screening sanctions, and beneficial ownership assessment.

· Experience in customer contact roles, ability to communicate with clients on a professional level

· Ability to analyse ownership structures and identify ultimate beneficial owners.

· Proficiency in using AML/KYC platforms, screening tools, and workflow systems.

· Strong communication skills, especially when dealing with clients and explaining regulatory requirements.

· Competent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy working environment.

· Strong risk awareness with the ability to identify red flags and escalate appropriately.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

· Knowledge of fund administration, private equity, or financial services structures.

· Experience working with nominee arrangements or multi-jurisdictional clients.

· Understanding of global AML frameworks (FATF, EU AML directives, Cayman BO rules, etc.).

· Professional certifications (e.g., ICA Certificate/Diploma in AML, ACAMS).

· Experience using platforms such as World-Check, RDC, LexisNexis, or Alessa.

· Exposure to process improvement or system enhancement initiatives.
