The Data & AI Stewardship Lead is a senior, business-facing leadership role within the Office of the Chief AI & Data Officer (CDAO), reporting directly to the Head of AI & Data Governance.
This role is responsible for operationalizing the enterprise Data and AI Governance strategy through a strong stewardship model that ensures data and AI assets are well understood, trusted, properly documented, and responsibly used across the organization.
The role acts as the primary execution lead for stewardship, bridging business domains, technology teams, risk, compliance, and product organizations, and driving enterprise adoption of governance platforms such as Informatica Data Catalog / Axon / IDMC.
This is a highly influential role requiring exceptional communication, facilitation, and change leadership skills.
Strategic Objectives of the Role
This role exists to:
- Make AI and Data Governance real and operational for the business
- Ensure data and AI accountability is embedded into day-to-day workflows
- Enable trusted data and responsible AI at scale
- Drive measurable business value from metadata, lineage, and stewardship
Key Responsibilities
1. Enterprise Data & AI Stewardship (Core Mandate)
- Design and lead the enterprise Data & AI Stewardship Operating Model.
- Establish and manage the network of:
- Data Stewards
- AI Stewards
- Product / Domain Owners
- Define stewardship roles, responsibilities, and escalation paths.
- Ensure accountability for:
- Critical data assets
- AI use cases and models
- Data products and pipelines
2. Informatica Platform Leadership (Metadata at Scale)
- Serve as the business owner for Informatica governance platforms:
- Informatica Data Catalog (EDC / IDMC)
- Axon Data Governance
- Drive enterprise adoption and value realization of:
- Business glossary
- Critical data elements (CDEs) (definition & ownership only)
- End-to-end lineage
- Data classification and sensitivity tagging
- Translate technical metadata into business-relevant insights and decisions.
3. AI Use Case & Model Stewardship
- Ensure all AI assets are:
- Registered in AI / data catalogs / AI registries
- Properly documented (purpose, ownership, data sources, risks)
- Aligned to responsible AI requirements (fairness, explainability, traceability)
4. Stewardship Operating Model & Business Adoption
- Build and run the enterprise stewardship community of practice.
- Define stewardship playbooks, onboarding, and training.
- Embed stewardship into:
- Product lifecycle
- AI development lifecycle
- Architecture and change processes
- Act as the primary business advocate for metadata and ownership.
5. Communication, Influence & Change Leadership (Most Important)
- Run enterprise stewardship forums, councils, and working groups.
- Evangelize:
- “Data as a Product”
- “AI as a governed business capability”
- Drive cultural adoption of governance as enablement, not compliance.
Required Experience & Skills
Professional Experience
- 8–10+ years in Data Governance, AI Governance, Data Management, or Analytics Leadership
- Proven experience operating in a federated, enterprise environment
- Experience working with senior stakeholders (VP / SVP / C-level)
Informatica Expertise (Strong Requirement)
- Hands-on experience with:
- Informatica Data Catalog (EDC / IDMC)
- Axon Data Governance
- Metadata management and lineage
- Data classification and business glossary
AI & Responsible AI Knowledge
- Strong understanding of:
- AI lifecycle and use case management
- Model documentation (model cards, inventories)
- Data sourcing for AI systems
- Familiarity with:
- NIST AI RMF
- ISO 42001
- EU AI Act / regulatory AI expectations
Communication & Influence (Critical Differentiator)
- Exceptional stakeholder management and facilitation skills
- Ability to influence without formal authority
- Strong executive communication and storytelling capability
- Proven experience driving organizational change
