About the role:

The Backend Developers with strong expertise in the .NET ecosystem (Core LTS), bringing solid hands-on experience in C#, Dapper, and highly proficient SQL skills to design and optimise data-driven applications. The ideal candidate will have experience with testing frameworks such as xUnit or NUnit, along with exposure to queueing technologies for building scalable, event-driven systems. You will demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities to analyse and resolve complex technical issues, and be comfortable working within iterative development environments such as Scrum or Kanban.

In this role you would be working closely with Apex Group ‘s New Zealand team.

Job specification

  • Building and enhancing .NET Core (LTS) backend services in a production environment

  • Designing and implementing data‑heavy workflows using C#, Dapper, and SQL

  • Developing APIs and backend components that prioritise performance, data integrity, and security

  • Working with queueing / messaging technologies for asynchronous processing

  • Writing unit tests (xUnit / NUnit) and contributing to overall code quality improvements

  • Participating in refinement sessions, code reviews, and sprint delivery

  • Applying clean coding practices and improving existing code incrementally

  • Collaborating closely with engineers, testers, and stakeholders in an agile setup

What We are Looking for :

  • Mid‑level backend engineering experience, with a strong focus on delivery and learning

  • Solid experience in the .NET ecosystem (Core LTS)

  • Strong hands‑on coding skills with C#, Dapper, and complex SQL queries

  • Experience writing and maintaining unit tests

  • Exposure to queueing or messaging systems

  • Familiarity with Scrum or Kanban development environments

  • Ability to analyse issues, troubleshoot, and ship reliable fixes

  • Comfortable collaborating in a team and communicating technical ideas clearly

Nice to Have :

  • Exposure to Azure (App Services, Application Insights, containers)

  • Experience with Azure DevOps, YAML CI/CD pipelines, and Git

  • Familiarity with Clean Architecture / N‑Tier architectures

  • Some front‑end exposure (JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular or React)

  • Experience with Docker, Terraform, or containerised workloads

  • Understanding of contract‑first APIs (OpenAPI)

  • Prior experience in financial services or investment platforms
