Job specification
The Director, Risk Americas is a senior member of the Risk Function, responsible for the local implementation of, and compliance with, the Apex Risk Management Framework across the Americas region.
The role is a collaborative business partner, supporting the Managing Director and respective Country Heads, in proactively managing risk by identifying, assessing and reporting both risk and controls (adequacy and effectiveness). The role provides timely, accurate and insightful risk MI and briefings to senior management in the region that enables the business to effectively manage their material risks to within the Group’s risk appetite.
As Risk inherently draws attention to our own potential and actual failures, shortcomings and mistakes, an overarching key deliverable will be the proactive promotion of Apex behaviors and values and the championing of a positive, transparent risk culture.
- Proactively provide expert advice, support and challenge to the regional MD, Country Heads and Operations in the day to day management of risk and controls in the region ensuring risks are identified, mitigated and managed in a proportionate and transparent manner.
- Actively brief the MD and relevant Country Heads on risk and control matters occurring across Apex, taking forward appropriate actions if the region/country is potentially exposed.
- Manage local teams of risk managers in Brazil and Chile.
- Provide timely, consistent and simplified risk and controls management expertise for the region, promoting ownership and accountability.
- Work with staff in the regions to implement the Apex Risk Framework, including Risk Assessment and Policies and Procedures, in a proportionate and pragmatic manner, escalating where not fit for purpose or challenges in delivering to milestone dates.
- Work with stakeholders to ensure quality Business Continuity plans are in place and tested, all in line with Global Policy.
- Provide risk advice, challenge and input to Client Acceptance governance in the region and ensure adherence to policy and process.
- Provide day to day regional incident, breaches, issues and errors support and delivery of the supporting processes, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures, including timely escalation as required.
- Champion risk based/risk appetite thinking and considerations in business strategy and commercial decisions, promoting a no surprises, no blame culture.
- Develop and maintain an appropriate level of understanding of regional products, processes and controls to ensure Risk Management activities meet and exceed service level expectations of clients.
- Provide Regional input to the development of, regional understanding of and implementation of all relevant policies and procedures, obtaining business input into practical implementation.
- Work with Risk Reporting / Risk Governance, contributing to the development and production of the regular Risk Reports for inclusion at various senior management committees such as Group and Local Audit and Risk Committees, local entity boards and ad hoc MI as required.
- Assist in identifying, designing and reporting a suite of appropriate Key Indicators (whether Risk, Control or Performance, leading and lagging), aligned to Regional and Group risks. This will include presenting and reviewing the position with local stakeholders and risk owners at LARCs and Boards
- Provide insight and timely trend analysis to identify potential emerging issues, sharing with other Regional Risk leads where appropriate.
- Work with Group Risk Framework and Operations to provide relevant data and MI to support Risk Assessment process, identify and assess Risk exposures, controls and control gaps, and Residual Risk exposures against Risk Appetite.
- Work with Operations to support local remediation of global or local issues.
Skills Required:
- 12+ years of Extensive Financial Services Risk Management experience
- Extensive Financial Services Risk Management experience
- Strong analytical and critical thinking combined with the ability to make independent recommendations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong stakeholder management
- Business acumen to understand the business needs
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, for liaising with senior management
- Flexible in work approach due to nature of the role to meet client deliverables

Salary ranges from USD $150,000.00 – USD $200,000.00 plus additional discretionary yearly bonus based on corporate and individual's performance. Compensation within this range is dependent on individual's skills, experience and qualifications.
