Job Description

Overview

The Project Manager oversees the planning, implementation, and tracking of customer and internal projects.

 

Project Managers ensure the project is completed on time and within budget, that the project's objectives are met and that everyone else is doing their job properly. Projects require a group of people to work together to achieve a set of specific objectives. Project Managers oversee the project to ensure the desired result is achieved, the most efficient resources are used and the different interests involved are satisfied.

 

Limited travel to customer sites, but not be necessary at all.                                   

 

Knowledge: Having broad expertise or unique knowledge, uses skills to contribute to development of company objectives and principles and to achieve goals in creative and effective ways. Contributes as both an individual and an informal supervisor on assigned projects.

Complexity: Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles. Follows company-wide project management processes and procedures, but exercises independent judgment as needed in obtaining results. Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Plan the project
    1. Define the scope of the project in collaboration with senior management.
    2. Create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the project.
    3. Determine the resources (time, money, equipment, etc) required to complete the project.
    4. Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activities and achieves customer’s desired schedule.
    5. Determine the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion.
  1. Staff the project
    1. In consultation with the appropriate manager, staff out the appropriate resources for achievement of project objectives and schedule.
    2. Manage project resources according to the established policies and practices of the organization.
  1. Ensure that all project resources receive an appropriate orientation to the organization and the project.
    1. Execute the project according to the project plan.
    2. Set up document repository to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and secured.
    3. Monitor the progress of the project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project.
    4. Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the organization on the progress of the project.
    5. Review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards.
  1. Control the project
    1. Assist senior management to manage revenue goals set for projects.
    2. Accurately forecasts revenue, bill rates and utilization across projects.
    3. Sets expectations upward regarding revenue and profitability projections.
    4. Performs as the initial management escalation point for any project related issues.
    5. Minimizes exposure and risk on projects.
  1. Evaluate the project
    1. Ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality.
    2. Evaluate the outcomes of the project as established during the planning phase.
  1. Communication
    1. Ensure that all internal and external customer interactions are handled professionally and with the highest level of service, follow-through and consistently keep commitments.
    1. Ensure a professional communication manner when in-person or in writing or on the phone at all times.
  1. Business Development
    1. Works in conjunction with the sales team to follow up on sales leads within practice and ensure seamless handover between presales and project.
    2. Grows long-term relationships with clients.

 

Work Experience

Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree;  or equivalent experience.

 

Knowledge

  • Experience working with offshore development teams.
  • Has work experience in professional services or support.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Very good educational background, preferably in the fields of computer science or technology.
  • Proven working experience in project management in the information technology sector.
  • Solid track record of relevant commercial experience
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • PMP / PRINCE II certification is a plus.
  • Personal Characteristics – Enthusiastic, Works well under pressure, Self-motivated.
