Job Title: Senior Database Architect

Location: Alpharetta, GA, Woodridge, IL, or Costa Rica - must be office based

About the role

The Database Architect role will manage system storage, establish and maintain policies and procedures and develop database solutions with other teams. This role will perform trouble shooting, being able to assess a situation and develop a solution.

 

  1. Allocates and optimizes system storage for the database system. Conducts capacity planning. Plans future storage requirements and advises management on long-term capacity plans and growth of the database system.
  2. Effectively manages system storage. Understands disk hardware architecture, RAID implementation, cache controllers, and disk load balancing.
  3. Designs, implements and maintain database security protocol. Plans and coordinates security measures alongside network administrators. Identifies and rolls out best practices for security, user and password management.
  4. Establishes and maintains sound backup and recovery policies and procedures. Defines Data Archive/Purge Standards. Monitors and maintains backups and recovery operations for database systems.
  5. Monitors and optimizes the performance of the database. Performs accurate application tuning and performance monitoring. Ensures availability of the database. Uses non-disruptive administration tactics. Calculates optimum values for parameters.
  6. Manages and enforces database policies, procedures and standards. Performs tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity.
  7. Identifies, evaluates and recommends hardware or software technologies to achieve desired database performance.
  8. Collaborates with the Applications team to develop database solutions by designing the proposed system; defining database physical structure, security, back-up, and recovery specifications.
  9. Perform general technical trouble shooting and gives consultation to development teams. Can quickly assess a situation and develop or implement a solution. Works with business managers to identify user needs. Provides a strategic database direction for the organization.
  10. Documents database policies, procedures and standards.
  11. Identifies and builds various database reports needed to give visibility into critical database and server parameters.

 

About you

 

Typically requires a minimum of 8-10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 6 years' experience; or equivalent experience. Typical range is 10-13 years.

 

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure
  • 5+ years' experience working with Microsoft Dynamics NAV and/or Business Central, both for implementation and maintenance activities, as well as performance tuning and troubleshooting
  • Experience with database systems including but not limited to Oracle, MS-SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL
  • Understanding of database systems and administration concepts
  • Basic understanding of firewall rules and concepts
  • Understanding of security scanning and general best practices for databases
  • Understanding of coding practices and SQL creation for applications
