About The Role
The Director, Investment Governance – Super is a senior leadership role with accountability for the overall effectiveness, integrity and evolution of Betashares Superannuation’s investment governance framework.
The Director, Investment Governance – Super is a senior leadership role with accountability for the overall effectiveness, integrity and evolution of Betashares Superannuation’s investment governance framework.
This role provides strategic oversight and executive assurance to the Trustee, Board and Committees that investment governance arrangements support member outcomes, meet regulatory expectations and remain fit for purpose as the superannuation business continues to grow and evolve.
Operating as the senior authority on superannuation investment governance, the Director sets direction, leads governance uplift initiatives and partners closely with senior stakeholders across investments, risk, legal and operations. While this is a leadership role, it requires the judgement to step in hands-on where complexity, risk or transformation demands it.

Role Responsibilities
Investment Governance Ownership & Strategy
- Own the design, ongoing effectiveness and future evolution of the superannuation investment governance framework, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and best practice.
- Set clear governance standards, expectations and priorities for investment governance activities across the Super business.
- Act as the senior escalation point for material governance matters, issues and decisions.
Board, Trustee & Regulatory Engagement
- Serve as a senior advisor to the Trustee, Board and Investment Committees on investment governance matters.
- Lead high-stakes engagement with regulators and external reviewers, providing assurance on governance outcomes and remediation where required.
- Oversee the quality, clarity and consistency of investment governance reporting to Boards and regulators.
Oversight of Investment Monitoring & Due Diligence
- Provide executive oversight and challenge across investment performance monitoring, stress testing, liquidity management and due diligence activities.
- Ensure monitoring frameworks, triggers and escalation processes are appropriate, effective and consistently applied.
- Review and approve recommendations on material investment governance matters as required.
Governance Transformation & Uplift
- Sponsor and lead investment governance transformation initiatives, including responses to regulatory change, operating model evolution and framework uplift.
- Act as the governance lead on superannuation transformation projects, ensuring governance is embedded by design.
- Drive continuous improvement in governance processes, documentation and decision-making.
Leadership & Capability Development
- Provide leadership, mentoring and direction to senior investment governance professionals.
- Foster strong collaboration across investments, product, risk, legal and operations to support effective governance outcomes.
- Build governance capability and resilience across the Super business.
Skills & Experience
- Deep expertise in superannuation investment governance and investment frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience operating at a senior executive or director level within a regulated financial services or superannuation environment.
- Strong judgement and credibility engaging with Boards, Trustees and regulators.
- Proven ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on involvement where required.
- Experience leading governance transformation, regulatory uplift or complex change initiatives.
- Highly developed communication and influencing skills.
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to synthesise complex qualitative and quantitative information.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Finance, Business, Law or a related discipline.
- Strategic thinker with a proactive, delivery-focused approach and ability to independently evaluate qualitative and quantitative variables.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Advanced Excel and financial reporting tools proficiency.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities, willingness to accept autonomy and responsibility.
- An ability to embrace, accommodate and implement change management initiatives both within Betashares and in collaboration with our external custodian and fund administrator.
- A Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Business, Finance or another relevant subject
