We are seeking a high-calibre M&A professional to join our team in Sydney, reporting to the Head of M&A. This role sits at the centre of Betashares’ growth strategy, supporting and executing buy-side M&A and strategic investments as a principal investor.

You will play a critical role in increasing transaction throughput while maintaining institutional-quality analysis and disciplined execution. The position requires strong independent analytical capability, ownership of workstreams, and the ability to operate effectively in a lean, high-performance team.

Responsibilities

Investment Analysis

  • Build fully integrated operating and valuation models from first principles
  • Assess earnings durability, scalability, competitive positioning, and downside risks
  • Develop clear, well-supported investment theses and defend recommendations

Transaction Execution

  • Lead day-to-day diligence processes, particularly financial workstreams
  • Manage internal stakeholders, external advisers, and counterparties
  • Review transaction documentation (SPA, earn-outs, completion accounts, SHA)
  • Maintain execution discipline, timelines, and prepare decision-making materials

Pipeline Management & Integration Planning

  • Screen sectors and evaluate potential targets
  • Develop thematic investment views aligned to the Betashares ecosystem
  • Maintain pipeline tracking and prioritisation frameworks
  • Support integration of new businesses and ongoing performance tracking

Experience

Three to six years’ experience in:

  • Investment banking (with deal exposure)
  • Private equity/growth equity
  • Corporate development
  • Strategy consulting (with transaction involvement)
  • Transactional law with strong commercial and financial fluency

Skills & Capabilities

  • Direct M&A execution experience required
  • Understanding of the Australian wealth sector preferred
  • Strong financial modelling capability with evidence of independent analysis
  • Ability to assess investment opportunities across value drivers, risks, and strategic fit
  • Clear and concise written communication skills (board-level materials)
  • Experience or interest in leveraging AI tools to enhance productivity
  • Structured thinker with a track record of exceeding expectations
  • High work ethic and ability to perform in periods of transaction intensity
  • Commercial curiosity and ability to operate independently with limited direction
  • Strong interest in capital markets and wealth platforms
  • Comfortable forming and defending views with imperfect information
