Betashares is one of Australia’s leading financial services brands and a market leader in the exchange-traded fund (ETF) industry. We are seeking a proactive and experienced Operations Engineer to support and scale the systems and workflows that underpin our various operational teams.

We are seeking a number of roles where your engineering skills will be integrated directly into the business units (such as finance, marketing, legal operations) where you will support the technical execution and commercial goals of the department. This integrated approach aims to accelerate problem-solving and establish shared objectives by aligning success metrics and strategic outcomes.

We are seeking engineers who are able to leverage their analytical, problem-solving and technical expertise in strongly collaborating and elevating others within the operational business units by upskilling the respective teams which will enhance capabilities, knowledge sharing, execution and ongoing maintenance.

You'll report to the Digital Transformation team manager, ensuring your work aligns with our broader technology strategy and delivery standards.

We have multiple opportunities available across permanent and 12-month contract roles, with the potential for contract positions to convert to permanent.

Role Responsibilities

  • Analyse and or optimse/design the performance of existing automated processes, applying your understanding of financial or investment operations to identify key areas for improvement.
  • Identify automation opportunities and implement low-friction, robust, maintainable solutions to reduce manual effort and improve process reliability.
  • Designing, building, and testing new tools and solutions to support future product offerings.
  • Support the creation of structured, reliable data-sets ready for reporting.
  • Onboard and integrate APIs from various business platforms and other external services.
  • Build internal controls, dashboards, reporting systems and workflows tailored to each departments key metrics.
  • Ensure all tools/solutions are well documented from a technical engineering standpoint with the appropriate traceability and lineage.
  • Support the business operations teams in analysing the root cause of issues relating to engineering solutions, leveraging your industry knowledge to quickly pinpoint challenges.
  • Collaborate with the wider Betashares engineering team to ensure new tools and systems meet internal standards for quality, security, and performance.

Key skills and experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or related field.
  • Experience working in the financial services would be beneficial and supporting operational business units such as marketing, finance and legal and familiarity with their respective business platforms.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with non-technical stakeholders and supporting production workflows, including those with automated or AI-enhanced components.
  • Experience or exposure in AI, intelligent automation, LLM-enabled tools or document processing solutions.
  • 2 years of experience in process Improvement engineering role or similar, ideally with exposure to automation or intelligent systems.
  • Proficiency in Python & SQL with an understanding of how these apply to data-driven solutions.
  • Experience in AWS, CICD, Docker and Temporal.io would be advantageous.
  • Experience with data platforms (eg postgress, databricks) and reporting dashboards highly regarded.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and being resourceful in finding answers to new questions.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a wider team, demonstrating strong time management and the ability to manage diverse stakeholder expectations effectively.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and time management skills.
