Supervisor, Payroll Operations

Position Overview
The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and leading a payroll department that handles client payroll for our entertainment clients. This position directly supervises and assists payroll coordinators, ensuring the accurate interpretation and implementation of collective bargaining agreements within and outside the Hollywood jurisdiction. The Payroll Supervisor will also be responsible for addressing and resolving client inquiries and escalations, ensuring client satisfaction.
This position will actively participate in employee reviews, managing workload distribution, providing employee training, and maintaining operational oversight. The ideal candidate possesses extensive knowledge in entertainment payroll processing and prior experience leading or mentoring a team.
Core Responsibilities
- Directly oversee and assist assigned payroll coordinators and the department as needed.
- Oversee and manage the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for clients.
- Enforce policies and standards related to techniques, material usage, capacity planning, production scheduling, customer satisfaction, employee relations, and performance measures.
- Ensure proper training and development of staff members providing clear direction, guidance, and support.
- Stay updated on all payroll processing systems and modifications.
- Assist in compliance with state, federal, and international regulations that may arise.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with clients, agencies, and coworkers to promote a quality service image.
- Provide leadership for problem resolution to facilitate improvements and enhance working relationships.
- Offer technical and professional advice to others within the organization.
- Assist clients in obtaining payroll-related information, respond to and resolve client questions and problems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications
- Experience processing both entertainment/production payroll (both union and non-union)
- Excellent organizational and planning skills to ensure efficient payroll processing and timely delivery of services.
- Experience in managing payroll compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.
- Understanding of and commitment to maintaining current knowledge of industry trends, concepts, products, practices, and financial arrangements.
- Proficiency in building multi-level relationships.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively towards team and individual goals.
- Analytical approach to payroll processing.
- Excellent time management skills, with strong sense of urgency and commitment to client servicing.
- Proficiency in using PC applications.
- Flexibility to adapt and prioritize tasks based on the team's client needs.
- Ability to break down complex payroll issues and learn advanced concepts.
- Self-motivated, capable of working independently, goal-oriented, and people-oriented.
- Four-year college degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
Special Work Conditions
- Sedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some positions may entail exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, or pull
