JOB SUMMARY

Database Administrators (DBA) are responsible for providing technical expertise with a variety of database technologies and is accountable for the performance of the database environment. They consult with and support internal teams on database environment utilization and analyze performance metrics to achieve optimum database performance. They work to ensure best practices are implemented and followed to ensure database integrity, efficiency, and storage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs various database maintenance activities to include but are not limited to:
    • Uses system commands and builds reports to identify failures; research anomalies, analyzes the details of the scenario and resolves problems of a routine nature; applies patches and executes scripts to ensure access and the consistency of data.
    • Codes programs to derive logical processes on technical platforms.
    • Writes SQL jobs, or modifies stored source code, for efficiency defragmentation and the updating of database statistics.
    • Assists with capacity planning, data loading and maintenance plans.
    • provides assistance with database back-up as required.
  • Monitors database and server performance to ensure CSI standards are met.
  • Coordinates upgrades and patches as required.
  • Assists with documenting database schemas and models (e.g., functions, tables, stored procedures, data dictionaries, etc.).
  • Participates on projects to implement best practices with technologies supported and executes process improvements as instructed.
  • Communicates progress, roadblocks, or escalations timely.
  • Monthly (one week/month) on-call rotation schedule.

PRIMARY RESULTS ACCOUNTABLE FOR ACHIEVING

  • Code and/or release scripts to meet the needs of the work items.
  • Proper follow-up when communicating efficiencies to other areas at CSI.
  • Environment returns to normal operation following support calls.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education & Certifications:

Accredited university, college, or trade school education and/or equivalent experience and/or training in applicable technology.

Experience:

Professional level position in described technology. At least One (1) year of hands-on work experience in relevant technical fields.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated technical competencies with database technologies, (e.g., MS SQL, MariaDB, MySQL, DMSII, etc.)
  • Mathematical, reasoning, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and teamwork-focused environment

RELATIONSHIP BUILDING

This position requires contact primarily within the department and contact within the company on routine matters. Contact outside the company is minimal.

DECISION MAKING

This position requires the use of judgment to plan and perform; general decisions are made to solve a problem or select a course of action for a standard or recognized method of operation.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

General Supervision. Assignments are both task-oriented and objective-oriented. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgement and overall adequacy and accuracy.

Travel: No travel typically required.

Physical Demands:

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel. This position requires close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and the basic need to look at a computer screen 8 hours a day.
