About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Release Engineer to manage, automate, and optimize the software build and deployment lifecycle. This role is crucial in ensuring efficient, reliable, and scalable release processes across multiple environments, while collaborating closely with engineering, QA, DevOps, and product teams. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, build automation, version control, and deployment tooling.
Release Engineering & Automation
- Own and maintain the CI/CD pipelines for multiple applications and services.
- Automate build, test, and deployment processes to improve reliability and reduce manual effort.
- Troubleshoot build failures, deployment issues, pipeline breaks, and environment inconsistencies.
- Implement and maintain build frameworks, scripts, and reusable deployment workflows.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure release workflows adhere to quality, security, and compliance standards.
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including build guides and deployment runbooks.
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks; recommend improvements to enhance release quality and reliability.
- Support compliance initiatives through proper versioning, traceability, and logging.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with development, QA, DevOps, and product teams to ensure smooth release planning and execution.
- Communicate release status, risks, delays, and dependencies clearly to stakeholders.
- Support sprint planning by providing input on release feasibility, impact, and technical dependencies.
- Assist in mentoring junior engineers on CI/CD best practices and configuration standards.
- Promote cross-team collaboration to enhance integration, efficiency, and release predictability.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5–9 years of experience in release engineering, DevOps, or build/release automation roles.
- Strong experience with CI/CD platforms (preferably Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions).
- Practical experience with version control tools such as Git and common branching/merge strategies.
- Hands-on experience deploying applications to cloud environments (preferably Azure).
- Proficiency with scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Python, or Shell).
- Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile methodologies, and release cycles.
- Operating Systems: Familiarity with Linux/Unix-based operating systems.
Technical Skills:
- Experience with build tools such as Maven, Gradle, npm, or MSBuild.
- Experience with deployment automation and environment configuration.
- Knowledge of containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes preferred).
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM Templates).
- Understanding of monitoring/logging platforms (Azure Monitor, Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, Splunk).
- Experience with artifact management tools (Azure Artifacts, Artifactory, Nexus).
- Familiarity with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Nagios.
