About The Role:
The Director – Engineering Operations will report to VP Strategy and Engineering, acting as a strategic partner and force multiplier for the technology organization. This role is responsible for translating technology strategy into executable initiatives, optimizing organizational operations, and ensuring the CTO's office operates with maximum effectiveness. The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking with operational excellence, serving as the connective tissue between technology leadership, business stakeholders, and delivery teams.
Main Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Partner with the CTO to develop, refine, and execute the technology organization's strategic roadmap and multi-year vision, translating strategic priorities into actionable initiatives with clear ownership, timelines, and success metrics
- Drive cross-functional strategic initiatives that require coordination across multiple technology teams and business units
- Conduct strategic analysis and provide data-driven recommendations on technology investments, organizational structure, and capability development
Program & Initiative Management
- Drive high-priority, cross-functional technology initiatives from conception through delivery, establishing program governance frameworks including steering committees, reporting cadences, and escalation paths
- Drive accountability for program outcomes through clear goal-setting, progress tracking, and stakeholder communication while identifying and resolving blockers, dependencies, and resource constraints
- Manage program portfolio prioritization and capacity allocation across the technology organization
Financial Management & Planning
- Own the technology organization's financial planning process, including managing the annual budget, monthly forecasting, and variance analysis
- Provide financial modeling and business case development for technology investments and organizational changes, tracking financial metrics and identifying cost optimization opportunities
- Manage vendor relationships and contract negotiations for strategic technology partnerships
Workforce Planning & Organizational Development
- Lead workforce planning initiatives including headcount planning, organizational design, and talent strategy, partnering with HR and recruiting teams to formulate hiring strategies for critical positions
- Oversee staff allocation and resource optimization across technology teams and initiatives
- Develop succession planning frameworks and identify capability gaps requiring development or acquisition while driving organizational change management
Governance
- Establish governance processes for technology decision-making, architectural standards, and delivery commitments
- Prepare executive communications, presentations, and materials for board meetings, leadership reviews, and company-wide updates
- Facilitate strategic decision-making processes and ensure follow-through on commitments and action items
Stakeholder Management & Communication
- Serve as a trusted proxy for the CTO in meetings, decisions, and cross-functional initiatives while building strong relationships with business unit leaders, product management, and other key stakeholders
- Drive alignment between technology and business priorities through effective communication and partnership
- Represent the technology organization in enterprise-wide strategic initiatives and manage sensitive and confidential matters requiring discretion and sound judgment
People & Management Skills
- Experience with leading and developing high-performing teams, providing coaching, mentorship and performance management whilst building organizational capability and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Involvement OKR definition including translating strategic objectives into measurable key results whilst ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals and cross-functional dependencies
Required Skills and Experience:
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in technology organizations, with at least 5 years in strategic operations, program management, or chief of staff roles
- Demonstrated experience working directly with C-level technology executives (CTO, CIO, VP Engineering) in a strategic capacity with proven track record leading complex, cross-functional programs
- Experience with workforce planning, organizational design, and change management in technical organizations, ideally with background in financial management and budgeting for technology investments
Technical & Business Acumen
- Deep understanding of technology organization structures, software development lifecycle, and modern engineering practices
- Ability to engage credibly with technical leaders and teams while translating complex technical concepts for business stakeholders
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budget management, forecasting, and financial analysis

- Strategic thinking: Ability to see the big picture, identify patterns, and develop long-term strategies while maintaining focus on execution
- Operational excellence: Systematic approach to building scalable processes, governance frameworks, and operating models
