About the Role
The DBA Lead is a senior responsible for the strategy, operations, and technical governance of Cyncly’s global database infrastructure, with a primary focus on Microsoft SQL Server and its integration with cloud and hybrid platforms (Azure).
This role involves leading a global team of Database Administrators, driving operational excellence to achieve critical SLA/OLA targets, ensuring system compliance and high availability, and managing the lifecycle of all database technologies. The Lead will provide technical, administrative, and operational leadership to complex data management projects, leveraging methodologies like ITIL and Agile.
Key Position Responsibilities Include:
Team Leadership and Governance
- Lead and mentor the global Database Administration (DBA) Team for Internal IT, setting performance standards and driving skill improvement.
- Compliance and Auditing: Own and manage database licensing, ensure compliance with all quality and technical standards, and prepare the database environment for internal and external performance audits at any point in time.
- New Technology Adoption: Bringing the latest industry standards and technology for Database Management, third-party monitoring tools, and associated processes.
- Communicate daily progress, risks, and strategic direction to stakeholders across the Cyncly global regions/locations.
Operational Excellence and Service Management
- Accountable for achieving the defined SLA / OLA targets for database services and ensuring maximum Database Uptime and performance.
- Drive the continuous improvement of database operations, adhering to ITIL framework principles (Incident Management, Risk Management).
- Oversee the scheduled execution of DBA overnight processes, ensuring timely monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues.
- Develop and implement architecturally significant components of the data management system, ensuring they meet high operational standards.
Technical Strategy and Delivery
- Cloud Strategy: Define and execute the strategy for database deployment, migration, and management, leveraging Microsoft Azure PaaS and IaaS solutions.
- High Availability & DR: Oversee the implementation and maintenance of high availability solutions.
- Lead and manage complex database projects, including SQL Server Upgrades, Migrations (including storage migration), and major patching initiatives.
- Bringing cost optimization and finding efficiencies (query optimization, sizing & well planned ERDs)
- Manage stakeholder negotiations to coordinate downtime for applying the latest service packs, Hotfixes, Cumulative Updates, performance tuning and proactive monitoring.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- 6-8 years of experience in SQL Database Technologies, with 3-4 years in a Team Leading capacity.
- MS SQL Mastery: Excellent technical knowledge across different MS SQL versions, including advanced experience with Replication, SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.
- HA/DR: Deep, hands-on knowledge in high availability solutions like Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, and Log-Shipping.
- Cloud: Proficient in Microsoft Azure PaaS, IaaS solutions related to database hosting and services.
- Core DBA: Expert skills in Patching, Hotfixes, Cumulative Updates, and performing unattended SQL Server installations for both clustered and non-clustered instances.

- Execution Focus: Drive for results, ability to prioritize work effectively, and demonstrate tenacity and self-motivation to ensure the job is done.
- Planning & Risk: Good planning, organizing, and time management skills, with the ability to escalate risks and issues at an early stage.
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge in other database systems: Oracle, MySQL, and MongoDB.
- Experience with PowerShell scripting for DBA automation.
- Familiarity with underlying infrastructure: Windows Servers, Virtualization solutions & Linux.
- Use of AI to speed up outcomes and improve quality.
- Exposure to quality systems and frameworks (e.g., ISO / CMMI).
