Position Overview
We are seeking a strategic and technically astute Director of Mid-Range Hosting to lead our team of IBM iSeries (Power10/Power11) specialists in delivering resilient, secure, and high-performing infrastructure for our SaaS ERP platform. This role is accountable for ensuring service reliability, operational continuity, and disaster recovery at scale, while optimizing cost and performance across the hosting environment.
The ideal candidate will have deep experience with IBM Power Systems, a strong understanding of enterprise SaaS requirements, and a proven ability to drive long-term value through effective vendor and cost management. This leader will play a critical role in shaping the future of our infrastructure platform and ensuring it continues to meet evolving business needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to a global team of IBM iSeries Power10/Power11 technical specialists
- Ensure the resilience, availability, and continuity of our mid-range hosting environment supporting the SaaS ERP platform
- Own and optimize the architecture, performance, and lifecycle management of IBM i environments
- Lead vendor strategy and engagement to ensure cost-effective, long-term partnerships
- Develop and execute infrastructure roadmaps that align with business goals, technology trends, and operational excellence
- Define and enforce SLAs, operational KPIs, and service-level objectives to ensure reliability and customer satisfaction
- Drive incident management and root cause analysis for critical issues, minimizing impact on customers and internal stakeholders
- Operations Oversight: Ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the Midrange Hosting environment, including system uptime, capacity, performance, patching, and security
- Project Management: Drive and manage initiatives such as system upgrades, hardware refreshers, and integration with other platforms (e.g., NetSuite, CRM).
- Documentation & Compliance: Ensure accurate documentation of system configurations, processes, and compliance with audit and security standards
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with application teams, storage engineers, and datacenter teams to ensure infrastructure aligns with business needs
- Budget & Resource Planning: Assist in budgeting, resource planning, and capacity forecasting for the Midrange systems
- Incident Management: Serve as the escalation point for complex issues. Oversee root cause analysis and permanent fixes for recurring problems
- Ensure cybersecurity compliance, risk mitigation, and regulatory adherence across relevant IT systems and processes
- Ability to develop operating plans
Required Skills & Education
- 15+ years of experience with IBM i (AS/400) systems, including at least 5 years in a technical leadership or managerial role
- Deep knowledge of IBM i OS, DB2, storage systems, HMC consoles, and performance tuning tools (iDoctor, WebQuery, etc.)
- Proven experience managing backup, disaster recovery, and high availability environments using tools like Flash Copy Toolkit and MIMIX IBM Global Mirror
- Strong understanding of SAN storage technologies (SVC, FS systems, DS900, FS7200), Brocade switches, Cloud Management Console (CMC) and IBM Storage Insights
- Ability to manage job scheduling and automation (e.g., Robot, Control-M, Intelligent Job Scheduler (IJS)
- Experience working with middleware and system integration platforms, with an emphasis on uptime and system health
- Exceptional troubleshooting, communication, and team management skills
- Familiarity with datacenter operations and vendor coordination
- Exposure to application support involving RPG, COBOL, Java on IBM i
- Experience with hybrid infrastructure or cloud integrations (IBM Cloud, Power Systems Virtualization)
- ITIL certification or familiarity with ITIL-based processes
- IBM Certified System Administrator – IBM i or equivalent certification
- Exposure to enterprise ERP/CRM integrations or related ecosystems (e.g., NetSuite, Salesforce, Dynamics)
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Skills
- IBM i and/or storae-related certifications
- PMP or Prince2
- ITIL Foundation or higher
- CISSP, CISM, or similar for security-oriented leaders
- Certified administrator or specialist on IBM i platform
