Job Role

The Cloud & Infrastructure Engineer will play a pivotal role within the infrastructure team taking charge of design, implementing and maintaining the Cloud and Infrastructure services. With a focus on efficiency, reliability, security and performance. The role is instrumental in managing our Cloud environment, vast network topology including our estate of next-gen firewalls and security platform. Working closely with cross functional teams, the Cloud & Infrastructure Engineer deploys and operates cloud based services, applications and services, striving to optimise costs and automate repetitive tasks.

The role will also provide mentoring to other members of the Cloud & Infrastructure team as well as our Service Desk and occasionally assisting with 3rd line technical support to our internal and external users, ensuring their incidents are resolved in an efficient and professional manner and in line with service level commitments. Fundamental to the role is the ability to offer exceptional customer service, through excellent written, oral and organisational skills, whilst delivering accurate technical resolutions to issues. It is critical you manage your own time and workload to process multiple incidents at the same time, and ensure effective resolution.

In this role, you’ll have the freedom to explore and provide the best solutions for our users and in turn develop your technical skills by supporting some challenging and interesting products and technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Public Cloud Infrastructure Management which involves provisioning, configuration and maintaining various Cloud resources to ensure scalability, reliability and security.
  • Monitoring and Performance Optimisation by implementing monitoring solutions to track performance and identify areas for optimisation to enhance user experience and automate improvements where possible.
  • System Availability and Reliability by ensuring high availability and data integrity through proactive monitoring, alerting, backups and DR planning and testing.
  • Incident Management and Troubleshooting by responding to and resolving major incidents promptly, conducting root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures.
  • Security and Compliance by implementing and maintaining security best practices, monitoring vulnerabilities and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity by assisting with the designing and implementing DR plans to ensure business continuity in case of disasters or outages.
  • Automation and Orchestration by creating and maintaining automation scripts and tools to streamline operations and tasks to ensure consistency using configuration policies and infrastructure as code.
  • Collaboration, Support and Documentation by working closely with colleagues, various teams and providing technical support and mentoring to our Service Desk and maintaining detailed documentation of Cloud & Infrastructure configuration, policies and processes.
  • Cost Optimisation by analysing Cloud usage and identifying opportunities for cost optimisation while maintaining performance and service levels.
  • Continuous Improvement by staying updated with the latest Cloud & Infrastructure technologies and continuously evaluating and proposing enhancements to existing systems, services and processes whilst also ensuring ongoing skills development through personal training and certifications.
  • Successful Onboarding of new Partner firms including firms that will utilise Fairstone’s Technology Services (MSP). Be involved in IT due diligence, highlighting risks and configuration and security concerns and proposing and implementing remediation solutions.
  • Successful Integration of acquired firms by being involved in IT due diligence, scoping and creating the integration plan and then implementation the plan.
  • Provision of quality 3rd line technical support acting as an escalation point to our 3rd line team
  • Accurate recording of issues and resolutions in to our Helpdesk System
  • Managing your own workload and time
  • Occasional remote work from our other offices across the UK
  • Occasional out of hours work is required during integrations and deployments
  • Executing live changes to data and software in a controlled and authorised manner via approved change management procedures
  • Mentoring and guidance to internal and external users on technical and/or business knowledge
  • Working with and establishing relationships with third party service providers to ensure full end-to-end service provision
  • Take responsibility and ownership of incidents and requests and escalating where required to senior technical colleagues or 3rd party IT partners
