About the Role:

We’re looking for a commercially savvy and solutions-focused Legal Counsel to join our high-performing Legal team. This is your opportunity to make a real impact by delivering pragmatic legal advice, supporting strategic initiatives, and helping shape the future of one of New Zealand’s leading investment and KiwiSaver providers.

As Legal Counsel at Fisher Funds, you’ll be at the heart of the action—delivering sharp, commercially focused legal advice that drives real business outcomes. You’ll help shape decisions with your legal insight and risk-savvy thinking. From feeding into marketing ideas to spotting opportunities for innovation, your work will help us stay ahead of the curve. You’ll also support our privacy compliance efforts and step into company secretariat duties when needed. Most importantly, you’ll build trusted relationships across the business and beyond, becoming a go-to advisor in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver sound, commercially aligned legal advice to support business strategy.
• Identify and act on opportunities for legal and business improvement.
• Lead or support legal aspects of business projects.
• Manage external legal providers and ensure cost-effective service delivery.
• Support privacy compliance and assess potential breaches or risks.
• Assist with board and committee governance processes as needed.
• Foster strong relationships across the business and legal community.
• Promote a culture of risk awareness and informed decision-making.

What You’ll Need to be Successful in the Role:

• Be a New Zealand qualified lawyer with 2-7 years’ PQE.
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to align legal advice with business strategy.
• Experience in privacy law, contract law and/or financial services is a plus.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset and a passion for continuous improvement.
