About the Role:

We’re seeking a motivated and commercially minded Investment Associate to join our Private Equity team at Fisher Funds. In this important role, you’ll contribute to the growth of our private equity programme by helping identify, executing, and manage direct investments in the New Zealand market.

You’ll be part of a collaborative team, working across the full investment lifecycle, from sourcing opportunities and conducting financial analysis to supporting portfolio companies and contributing to strategic reporting. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on responsibility, enjoys solving complex problems, and is passionate about long-term investing in the New Zealand market.

You’ll bring a balance of analytical rigour, commercial insight, and strong interpersonal skills, and play an active role in shaping the future of private equity at Fisher Funds.

Key Responsibilities:

Origination & Execution:

• Identify and assess potential investment opportunities in collaboration with the team.
• Conduct in-depth research and analysis to support investment theses.
• Lead financial modelling and forecasting, producing accurate and insightful outputs.
• Manage due diligence processes and communicate findings effectively.
• Support internal approvals by preparing high-quality investment papers.

Investment Management:

• Monitor and analyse portfolio company performance.
• Collaborate with management teams to support strategic growth.
• Maintain financial models and perform valuations.
• Produce quarterly and year-end valuation reports.

Contribution to Broader Business:

• Contribute to the visibility and growth of Fisher Funds’ private equity programme by supporting the creation of media content, newsletters, and investor reports.
• Represent Fisher Funds at client events, industry conferences, and networking opportunities.

What You’ll Need to be Successful in the Role:

Experience & Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in private equity, investment banking, corporate finance, or a related area.

Technical Skills

• Strong financial modelling skills, including LBO and valuation models (DCF, comparables).
• Proficiency in Excel and market data tools (e.g., MergerMarket, CapIQ).
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and corporate finance.

Due Diligence & Analysis

• Experience conducting thorough research and risk analysis on target companies.
• Ability to synthesise complex data into clear investment insights.

Communication & Collaboration

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across teams and with external partners.

Project & Time Management

• Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams and deliver high-quality outputs under pressure.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise effectively.
