About the role
As Financial Reporting Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring the financial health, integrity and sustainability of Fisher Funds. Reporting to the GM Financial Reporting, Control and Tax, you will lead the Financial Reporting team and oversee group accounting, external reporting, controls, and compliance across the organisation.
This role combines strong technical accounting expertise with people leadership, commercial insight and strategic thinking. You will provide high‑quality financial analysis and reporting to support decision‑making at Executive, Board and shareholder level, while continuously strengthening financial frameworks, controls and processes.
With two direct reports, you will also focus on building team capability and fostering a strong control environment, ensuring Fisher Funds continues to meet its regulatory obligations and long‑term strategic objectives.
*This is a fixed-term opportunity for an approximate length of 5 months
Key responsibilities:
Financial reporting, accounting & compliance
- Lead group accounting activities including journals, reconciliations, accruals, pre‑payments and month‑end processes.
- Ensure timely, accurate preparation of financial statements in line with NZ IFRS, FMCA and other regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate external audits and manage relationships with auditors and other external stakeholders.
- Prepare regulatory, banking, shareholder and other external financial reporting.
- Deliver high‑quality financial reporting to the Executive Team and Board, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements and key financial metrics.
- Continuously improve accounting policies, frameworks, systems and reporting processes.
Controls, risk & governance
- Provide senior financial reporting advice to the GM Financial Reporting, Control and Tax and key stakeholders.
- Identify, assess and escalate emerging financial, regulatory and control risks.
- Strengthen and maintain a robust financial control environment, including oversight of third-party providers.
- Support delivery of compliance certificates and other financial governance requirements.
Leadership & capability development
- Lead and develop the Financial Reporting team, setting clear direction, expectations and accountability.
- Build team capability through coaching and development, strengthening technical expertise, judgement and regulatory understanding.
- Foster a culture of quality, continuous improvement and collaboration across Finance and the wider business.
Cash flow & strategic financial insight
- Oversee liquidity and cash flow management to meet operational needs and optimise fund allocation.
- Evaluate investment and capital allocation opportunities, including capital expenditure, mergers and acquisitions and strategic initiatives.
- Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision making and business initiatives.
- Actively contribute to a safe, healthy and inclusive workplace, with a focus on wellbeing.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience leading and mentoring finance professionals, with the ability to set direction and deliver high‑quality outcomes.
- Strong technical accounting expertise, including NZ IFRS, AIFRS and FMCA, ideally within financial services or funds management.
- Solid understanding and experience in fund accounting, financial and management reporting frameworks, and forecasting processes.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex financial data and translate it into clear, actionable insights for a range of audiences.
- Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to identify opportunities to improve performance, manage risk and maintain regulatory compliance.
- In‑depth knowledge of wealth management operations, legislation, regulation and industry trends.
- Proven relationship management skills, including influencing, negotiating and working effectively with senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Business Management, with Chartered Accountant (CA) membership or international equivalent.
