Due to an internal promotion, we are looking for a new Head of Trading at Fisher Funds. In this role you will lead the desk responsible for translating asset allocation and portfolio manager decisions into actual investment exposure. You'll have direct impact on portfolio outcomes through best execution, liquidity management, exposure management, and oversight of the systems, frameworks, and counterparty relationships that support trading across all asset classes.

This role is key to delivering efficient portfolio outcomes while maintaining compliance with regulatory and SIPO requirements. You'll lead and develop the trading team, and drive ongoing improvement of Fisher Funds' trading and portfolio implementation capability through process improvement and better ways of working.

You'll work closely with Portfolio Managers, the Strategy team, and Investment Operations, and represent trading and investment perspectives across key governance committees.

Success in this role will be measured through execution quality, portfolio implementation outcomes, team performance, operational efficiency, and the strength of relationships internally and across the market.

What you'll be doing:

Leadership & team development

  • Lead, develop, and manage the trading team, including recruitment, training, and performance management.
  • Drive proactive communication and collaboration with Portfolio Managers and the CIO on portfolio cash flow, rebalancing, and hedging requirements.

Portfolio implementation & execution

  • Provide trading cover across fixed income, foreign exchange, equities, and derivatives as required.
  • Drive best execution practices across the trading team, ensuring all trades are completed as requested.
  • Lead the implementation of asset allocation, tactical asset allocation changes and transitions from planning through to execution.

Exposure & liquidity management

  • Manage cash and exposure across the full range of portfolios to meet client transactions and invest inflows in a timely manner.

Systems, governance & relationships

  • Manage the Bloomberg relationship for the firm and oversee the ongoing management of Bloomberg AIM.
  • Lead the set-up of new asset classes as required, working with Product, Operations, Custody, and other relevant parties as required.
  • Work closely with the middle office team to ensure issues are resolved accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships internally and externally with counterparties.

What we're looking for:

  • Significant experience leading a trading function or team.
  • Strong technical knowledge of funds management, portfolio implementation, trading processes, and systems.
  • Experience trading and implementing portfolios across multiple asset classes, including liquidity management, hedging, and rebalancing.
  • A track record of leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes, identify efficiencies, minimise risk, and maintain strong compliance outcomes.
  • Strong relationship skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of the New Zealand and global regulatory environment and compliance requirements.

You do not need to meet all these requirements to be considered for the role.
