Job Overview

The Sr. Principal Technical Writer is part of the Labs team, primarily responsible for partnering with Development Teams and internal stakeholders to author and develop clear and understandable content for release notes, quick reference guides, online knowledge base, developer.icims.com, and other supporting material for iCIMS Talent Platform.

Responsibilities

• Establishes and/or maintains a document control system to manage approvals and track documentation changes and updates
• Contributes to overall strategic direction of solutions and ensures alignment with overall departmental initiatives and SDLC
• Mentors and reviews content from less experienced or newer team members for consistency
• Proactively identifies opportunities that need documentation by understanding support requests and working directly with end users and evaluating their feedback
• Establishes and/or maintains a documentation request system to manage change requests or requests for new content to ensure knowledge base is up-to-date and comprehensive
• Works cross-functionally to identify opportunities for process improvement
• Acts as the liaison to various cross-departmental teams to articulate impacts to their
organization and ensure said impacts are documented accurately and effectively
• Serves as lead for integration of content with complementary systems & programs (i.e. Training, in-platform)
• Identifies opportunities for new or updated content by monitoring/reporting on search behavior of content consumers
• Validates accuracy and completeness of documentation by observing product use and
independently testing features/functionality
• Serves as lead author/editor for new technical documents and publications as required
• Edits and updates existing documentation as needed to ensure documents are of the highest quality
• May provide coaching and mentoring for various internal teams to ensure documentation is clear and serves the purposes intended
• Partners with Marketing & Training Teams to ensure documentation is maintained on the appropriate sites
• Adheres to proper English writing and grammar rules
• Establishes and/or maintains the Style Guide and ensures adherence to quality assurance standards
• Consistently ensures that business is conducted with integrity at all times and that behavior aligns with iCIMS policies, procedures, and core competencies


Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years’ experience in technical documentation and writing
• Leads and direct the work of others and helps ensure the work of the team aligns with overall
department initiatives
• Highly proficient in all modules or documentation types as well as the tools and systems used
by the team
• Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures; overall proficiency in
product and industry knowledge
• Ability to understand and articulate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical
audiences
• Very high level of organizational skills and the ability to layout information logically
• Strong proficiency in writing, and editing technical material including (but not limited to):
technical articles, reports, brochures, and/or manuals

 

Education/Certifications/Licenses Required
• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications or related experience.
• Alternatively, 3 years of technical documentation experience
