Job Description

An intern program with the Database Services Team at IFS offers talented graduates the opportunity to work on exciting projects, collaborate with professional DBAs, and gain practical experience in the dynamic field of database technologies within Azure Cloud. As a Database intern, you will contribute to impactful initiatives, build a professional network, and develop skills that will set the foundation for a successful career in the technology industry.

Responsibilities

  • Database Management:
    • Assist in various daily database operations such as backup/restore, cloning, monitoring, high availability, etc
    • Assist in database optimization, and maintenance tasks such as space/capacity, gathering statistics, index rebuilds, etc.
    • Contribute to implementation of database solutions such as deployment, patching, upgrades, migration, etc.
    • Work alongside senior DBAs to report on the entire database estate and fix problems identified.
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams on various technology projects via JIRA.
    • Contribute to the resolution of client issues and inquiries via Service Now ticketing system.
    • Work to support different database engines: Oracle, SQLServer, AzureSQL, etc

  • Database Knowledge:
    • Understanding of database concepts and SQL.
    • Ability to work with database management systems.
    • Understanding of Cloud concepts.
  • Problem-Solving:
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and propose effective solutions.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines, targets and needs of the role
  • Ability to manage own time, efficiently and effectively
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • A good team player with a can-do attitude
  • Ability to work in an international, multi discipline, cross functional team

  • Be proactive and energetic in the work situation, seeking to get things done without constant supervision and at the same time being able to multi-task.

Experience

  • Technical Exposure:
    • Demonstrated interest in software development, database management, or related technical areas.
    • Previous internships, coursework, or personal projects in technology are advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Working Environment

  • The role is primarily working standard Sri Lanka or UK office hours
