Job Description
GIS Technician is a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of relevant oil and gas upstream data areas of responsibility. This individual identifies points, lines, and polygons with associated data, related to the oil & gas industry – wells, mineral leases, surface ownership, and/or land grid. The GIS Technician works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors and demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. This individual provides training to colleagues in assigned areas of responsibility as needed.
Responsibilities:
Collect, interpret, and maintain a wide variety of documents related to Oil & Gas Upstream and Land data
Create and edit geospatial data (points, lines, and polygons) based on available documentation
Master key concepts and terminology related to geospatial data (i.e.: survey methods and legal descriptions of land) and Oil & Gas Upstream asset management and lifecycle events (i.e.: permits, leases, ownership, completions, plugs, and monument control points)
Create, maintain, and own internal documentation with respect to data workflows, processes, etc.
Provide quality control of data in areas of subject matter expertise
Resolve assigned customer concerns and data quality and/or geospatial accuracy. Assess, assign, monitor, and report result of client and partner cases.
Participate in a knowledgeable manner concerning workflows, data quality, and team priorities. This includes understanding similarities in workflows, quality expectations, and assigned priorities. Knowledge management: create and edit standard operating procedures reflecting workflows priorities, and quality expectations.
Train colleagues in team processes and procedures
Troubleshoot hardware and work with off-site IT to resolve issues; Beta test software releases to identify bugs; Recommend software enhancements to improve process when possible.
Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and business communication skills; strong collaboration
Well organized and efficient with keen judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills
Self-starter, able to work with minimal direction from management. Understands need for lateral thinking; Displays willingness to adapt to new ways of doing business.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and/or professional designation or certificate or equivalent experience with high school diploma.
Minimum of 1 - 5 years of relevant work experience in Oil & Gas Upstream data
Able to work / be available a couple hours a day that overlap with US Business Hours is a must.
