Job Description

We are seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Senior Data Architect with deep expertise in the Microsoft Azure data ecosystem to design and govern enterprise-wide data architectures. This role is pivotal in aligning the enterprise data strategy with business objectives, ensuring scalable, secure, and performant data solutions across the organization.

As a key member of the Enterprise Architecture team, you will work across business domains, IT delivery teams, and governance bodies to drive data architecture standards, maturity, and innovation on the Azure platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Define, govern, and evolve data architecture aligned with business capability models and strategic outcomes.
• Architect end-to-end data solutions leveraging Azure-native services such as Azure Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Purview and Power BI.
• Experience of other vendor tools, able to assess and introduce alternative tools if the Azure tools do not meet our specific needs.
• Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to design modern data platforms supporting analytics, AI/ML, data governance, and regulatory compliance.
• Develop reference architectures, data models, and architectural patterns to support data integration, storage, processing, and consumption at scale.
• Champion data governance, data quality, metadata management, and master data management initiatives using tools such as Microsoft Purview, Azure Policy, and Azure Monitor.
• Provide architectural oversight and guidance on data platform modernization, cloud migration, and integration with legacy on-premises systems.
• Lead capability assessments and technology evaluations to recommend best-fit Azure data services aligned to strategic business needs.
• Contribute to enterprise architecture governance, roadmaps, standards, and policies, ensuring consistent and secure data practices.

Qualifications

To be successful you will have:

Essential:

• 10+ years of experience in data architecture, including 5+ years in enterprise-scale Azure data solutions.
• Proven experience designing and implementing solutions using key Azure services:
• Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL, Azure Stream Analytics, Azure Event Hub, Microsoft Purview and Power BI.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and data integration patterns.
• Demonstrated experience in enterprise information architecture, metadata strategy, and governance frameworks.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as TOGAF, DAMA-DMBOK, and cloud architecture best practices.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex data architecture concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Desirable:

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Data Engineer Associate.
• Experience with data privacy and security frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
• Exposure to AI/ML data architectures and supporting MLOps in Azure.
