Position Summary |
The Data Engineer supports data requests for data integrations and migrations, EDI or API integrations with external trading partners, Power BI visualizations, and BI development. This includes guiding projects to completion by establishing schedules and coordinating tasks required to complete, creating logical data mappings and documentation, developing data integration flows, testing data integrations with QA staff, and implementation support. This position must also gain a solid understanding of business requirements, industry standards and guidelines to ensure compliance is met with internal and external partners. |
Essential Functions |
- Maintain EDI and API integration standards and implement guides to document data exchange requirements
- Perform set-up of new trading partners; including configuration, testing, and verifying that EDI HIPAA standards are being followed
- Lead on API projects in assessing feasibility and work effort for estimating project timelines
- Develop and maintain relationships with external trading partner subject matter experts
- Troubleshoot transactional data exchanges with internal departments and external trading partners
- Work with others to identify system problems and recommend solutions to improve processing efficiency and stability
- Demonstrated experience with EDI translators, mapping external business documents with internal data structures, including but not limited to EDI transactions and resolving transmission and data structure issues with trading partners
- Familiarity with the enrollment formats and equivalent API calls (e.g., 834 for COBRA benefits)
- Effectively communicates issues to management in a technically skilled manner and with strong focus on customer service
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to quickly assess and analyze problems and develop solutions
- Interface with business analysts and product owners on project/request requirements to turn into specifications for development.
- Prototype gathering data via T-SQL and/or visualizing outcomes in Excel or PowerBI for projects/requests facilitating better understanding of customer requirements.
- Lead or assist in developing Boomi processes with subject matter expertise.
- Lead or assist with data quality analysis with T-SQL scripts, command line scripting languages, and/or Excel macros.

- Familiarity with EDI document standards (e.g., the 834 or 837 specification)
- 3-5 years of demonstrated T-SQL coding experience
- Demonstrated SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) experience
- 3-5 years of demonstrated experience with Power BI or similar visualization tool in creating data models, visualizations, and performing transformations
- 3+ years of demonstrated data integration tool (e.g., Boomi, MuleSoft, or Wakato) development experience in creating EDI or API interchanges
- 3+ years of experience with Postman for API integrations preferred
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience in Python or PowerShell development
- 3+ years of experience with Git or other Git based source control preferred
- Working knowledge of SFTP and PGP/GPG encryption a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail with large volumes of data
- Ability to manage and prioritize tasks with strict deadlines
- Must be able to create relationships through electronic correspondence
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, Adobe, XML and JSON
