Payroll Specialist

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Payroll Specialist

Reports to:

Payroll Supervisor

Full Time, Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for all aspects of payroll processing ensuring the timely and accurate payment of employee wages. This includes collecting all necessary information and documents, computing wages, and investigating and resolving any payroll discrepancies. The individual must be able to efficiently coordinate payroll tasks and adhere to deadlines while maintaining confidentiality. Enter journal entries and bills into NetSuite.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Collecting and verifying employee and timekeeping data
  • Computing wages, deductions, commissions, expenses, etc.
  • Reviewing wages to ensure accuracy
  • Processing bi-weekly, semi-monthly and monthly payrolls
  • Updating/verifying payroll information for promotions, transfers, termination and new hires in payroll
  • Processing quarterly MBO bonuses, severance pay, etc.
  • Preparing and uploading 401(k) contribution information
  • Answering employee questions/concerns
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality of all payrolls, employee and proprietary info
  • Recording and reconciling payroll-related accounting transactions in the general ledger

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of experience working with payroll
  • Experience in payroll processing
  • Journal Entry and NetSuite Experience Preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting/payroll principles and tax laws
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy
  • Experience with payroll systems (ADP, Paycom, Other)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Team player who can collaborate with other departments in the organization.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to clearly communicate issues to all levels of management
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changes

Education and/or Certification Required:

Associate’s Degree; 2-3 years payroll experience

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
