About the Opportunity:

Our innovative product development team is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Database Engineer to scale our in-house database system to withstand current and growing demands. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining and creating stored procedures, indexes, triggers, and functions as well as identifying and resolving bottlenecks. A desire to learn and understand the supported product is a must to be successful in this role. Additionally, this individual must be able to work effectively both individually and within a team environment.

We can consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to one of our following offices: Omaha, NE, Berwyn, PA, Sacramento, CA, Hebron, KY, Chandler, AZ, Provo, UT, or Idaho Falls, ID.

In this role, you'll get to:

• Maintain efficient and scalable database solutions.

• Write and optimize complex SQL queries for data manipulation and retrieval.

• Develop and maintain stored procedures, triggers, and functions to enhance database functionality.

• Design and implement data models to support business requirements.

• Ensure data integrity and consistency through proper modeling techniques.

• Monitor and optimize database performance for efficient data access.

• Identify and address performance bottlenecks through query optimization.

• Create alerting and automation around bottlenecks.

• Support and debug database production issues

• Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand data needs.

• Collaborate with software developers to integrate databases seamlessly into applications.

• Create and maintain documentation related to database design, schemas, and processes.

• Assist in training team members on best practices for database development.

• On-call support on rotation with the team.

We're looking for talent with:

• Proven experience as a Database Developer or similar role. (5+ years)

• Strong proficiency with relational database systems including database development (MySQL).

• Familiarity with NoSQL databases.

• Knowledge of database design principles and normalization.

• Ability to scale large database systems.

• Familiarity with database management tools.

• Understanding of version control systems (Git).

• Knowledge of scripting languages (Bash, PowerShell).

• Ability to multi-task while maintaining careful attention to detail.

• Have an urge to collaborate and communicate asynchronously.

• Have an urge to document all things, so you don’t need to learn the same thing twice.

• Have a proactive, go-for-it attitude. When you see something broken, you can’t help but fix it.

• Have an urge to deliver quickly and iterate fast.

• Have a passion for stable and secure systems management practices.

Preferred but not required skills:

• Familiarity with .Net.

• Experience with designing and implementing RESTful APIs.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

• Experience with microservices architecture.

• Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
