Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Mainframe Systems Programmer to support, maintain, and enhance our IBM z/OS mainframe environment. This role is responsible for installing, configuring, upgrading, and tuning system software to ensure high availability, performance, and security of mission critical systems. The ideal candidate will work closely with application development, operations, security, and infrastructure teams to support both production and non-production environments.
What you will do:
- Monitors system software access, performance, and resource utilization.
- Primary responsibility for maintaining the z/OS and JES2 software environment.
- Work with application programmers to ensure that application problems do not adversely affect production operations.
- Assists with the analysis, design, programming, and implementation of internal products
- Develop/maintain/monitor proper software use and security authorization policies.
- Creates, maintains, and upgrades operating system software for development environments.
- Analyzes requirements and recommends policies, procedures, and standards for operating system software.
- Implement and verifies backup and recovery procedures.
- Accept ownership of all mainframe-based systems, including multiple z/OS sysplexes.
- Install new z/OS releases as they become available and configure to support Development environments.
- Keep supported systems current with the latest maintenance provided by IBM Maintain system reliability and ensure availability.
- Be available after hours for emergencies or exceptional situations concerning the mainframe environment.
- Resolve any system-related problems that may arise in a timely and efficient manner.
What we are looking for:
- 5+ years of experience as a Mainframe Systems Programmer or equivalent role
- Strong hands on experience with IBM z/OS in an enterprise environment
- Experience with SMP/E, system upgrades, and maintenance processes
- Solid understanding of JES2, system libraries, and z/OS initialization and configuration
- Experience supporting system IPLs and system recovery activities
- Familiarity with mainframe security concepts and tools (e.g., RACF)
