THE OPPORTUNITY

The Principal Enterprise Architect (EA) will have a hands-on role, leading the design and build-out of the Riskonnect integration strategy to maximize productivity, scale operations, and drive speed of innovation for customer benefit. This role will serve as the expert for enterprise architecture tools, best practices, and standards and play a critical role in modernizing the Riskonnect technology portfolio to drive a seamless digital experience for our customers and employees. The EA will ensure that the solutions are scalable, secure, and efficient, supporting the Riskonnect solution integration objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Architecture Design & Development:

  • Lead the design and deployment of integration solutions to enable high velocity of development, scalability, availability, and re-use.
  • Design and recommend system/application integration and API standards, EA standards, EA governance frameworks, and related data architecture standards.
  • Create detailed technical documentation including architecture diagrams, data flow diagrams, and interface specifications.

Strategy & Planning:

  • Maintain the enterprise integration strategy, ensuring it aligns with the organization’s overall solution strategy and business objectives.
  • Provide expert advice to project teams on use of integration technology, data architecture and modeling, system architecture including integration best practices.
  • Provide oversight in standards adherence through reviews of project work including detailed technical specifications and application code.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Communicate cross product integration status to various levels of management.
  • Create detailed technical documentation including architecture diagrams, data flow diagrams, and interface specifications.
  • Ensure that integration solutions meet business needs and align with enterprise standards and best practices.
  • Manage an Integration/Architecture Roadmap and project backlog in partnership with the R&D leadership team.

Mentorship & Training:

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams throughout the integration project lifecycle.
  • Ensure that all integration solutions adhere to established policies and standards.
  • Lead workshops and training sessions for teams to promote best practices in integration design and development.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 10+ years leading strategic definition and execution of application and data integration
  • 8+ years of experience in IT architecture, with a focus on enterprise integration.
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience with the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, including API-led connectivity, MuleSoft ESB, MuleSoft Runtime, and CloudHub.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing complex integration solutions in large enterprises.
  • Proven experience leading and executing product integration strategies, especially in complex enterprise environments. Able to expedite the integration process and overcome technical and strategic challenges.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of integration patterns, API management, and microservices architecture.
  • Proficiency in MuleSoft development, DataWeave, RAML, and RESTful web services.
  • Knowledge of common system integration methods and technologies including Web services, SOAP, JSON, XML Schema Definition (XSD), Extensible Markup Language (XML), Business process automation and orchestration tools and software.
  • Strong familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS etc.) and experience with cloud-native integration solutions.

Leadership Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to design innovative solutions for complex business requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Capable of independently driving integration efforts, making strategic decisions, and resolving detailed technical issues without requiring extensive oversight.
  • Experience in leading and guiding teams through technical decision-making processes. Focus on resolving integration challenges and facilitating strong connections between products.
  • Able to work horizontally across multiple product teams, holding them accountable for integration work.
  • Experience in guiding teams through the adoption of new integration mindsets and skills. Capable of mentoring and upskilling team members to ensure they are equipped to handle integration tasks effectively.
  • Able to collaborate with various stakeholders, including product teams and senior leadership, to ensure alignment on integration goals and progress. Excellent communication skills to drive accountability and ensure transparency across teams.
  • Strong commitment to being "in the trenches," with the time, capacity, and dedication to manage and execute integration tasks at a granular level, ensuring timely and effective progress.
  • Experience working with and guiding globally distributed teams.
  • Demonstrated success working in an Agile development environment with multiple teams and product portfolios.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified: MuleSoft Platform Architect.
  • Certified: MuleSoft Integration Architect.
  • 5 years Salesforce platform development.
  • 5 years with .NET, Java, Python, and SQL Server.
  • 5+ years of experience with people management.
  • Certification, familiarity, and experience with implementation of the TOGAF Framework.
  • Experience in the Integrated Risk domain – ERM, GRC, IT/Cyber Risk, or Claims Administration.
  • Experience with other integration tools such as APIGEE, TIBCO/Mashery, Boomi, Jitterbit, Postman, or Fivetran.
  • Experience with leading data transformation tools such as Microsoft Azure Data Factory and SSIS, Talend, and Informatica.
  • Experience working with API’s from commercial applications, such as CRM, HCM, or ERP systems.
  • Experience with leading data warehousing and transformation tools, including Microsoft Data Fabric, Snowflake, and Databricks.
  • Experience creating and maintaining Enterprise Data Dictionaries.
  • Experience with AI/ML tools, data practices and ML-Ops.
  • Experience with data reporting tools including PowerBI, Domo, Tableau, and Cognos.
  • Platform development or implementation experience with Salesforce CRM and/or Service Now.
  • Experience working in or with consulting services, including solution delivery, RFP creation & vendor management.
  • Experience with due diligence and integration on either side of mergers & acquisitions (M&A).
  • Experience in a management or supervisory role on an integration development team.
  • Established project management skills.
