The Opportunity
The Sr. Database Administrator is responsible for supporting and administering client-hosted databases across Riskonnect systems, ensuring performance, reliability, security, and recoverability. This role monitors and maintains Oracle and SQL Server database environments, proactively identifies and resolves issues, and ensures databases are properly backed up and recoverable. The Sr. Database Administrator collaborates closely with senior technical resources and internal customers to fulfill database technology requests, support upgrades and patching, and implement database designs that meet both front-end and back-end user needs. Leveraging deep expertise in Oracle RAC, SQL Server, and supporting operating systems, this role applies industry best practices, continuously learns new technologies, and provides strong technical problem-solving to support the stability and strategic direction of Riskonnect’s database infrastructure.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities Include
- Monitors system performance and identifies problems as they arise
- Responds in a timely manner to cases
- Ensure that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered
- Design databases with both front-end and back-end users in mind
- Monitors and administers database technology
- Work with senior resources to install, upgrade and patch database software
- Monitor RMAN, datapump and SQL Server backups
- Monitor system performance on Oracle Linux and SQL Server Windows servers using internal dashboards, shell scripts, etc.
- Works closely with internal customers to fulfil work requests on database technology
- Exporting and importing data using data pump
- Attaching and detaching databases
- Granting security to databases and schemas
- Creating linked servers and setting up scheduled jobs for data transformation
- Creating and dropping databases and schemas
- Learns and utilizes new technologies as needed to perform job functions.
- Participate in an on‑call rotation approximately one week every 5–6 weeks to ensure continuous support and availability of mission‑critical database systems.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Experience:
- Oracle RAC and RACOne Skillset requirements (5+ years) 12c and above:
- Proficient in installation, configuration and upgrading of Oracle server software and related products
- Proficient with rolling patching, rolling reboots, starting and stopping services, etc.
- Proficient in system performance monitoring and troubleshooting using AWR, ASH, tracing and other methodologies
- Knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Database internals and physical database design
- Knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL and other coding techniques
- Knowledge in Backup and Recovery using RMAN, Data Guard and other methodologies
- Knowledge of Linux OS and Shell scripting incorporating Oracle utilities for administration and monitoring
- Proficient in various Oracle related tools like Oracle Enterprise Cloud Control (Grid Control), Toad, SQL Developer
- SQL Server Skillset requirements (5+ years):
- Proficient with SQL Server Cluster administration, support, troubleshooting, patching
- Proficient knowledge of SQL, TSQL and other coding techniques
- Powershell and other Microsoft Windows based scripting
- Working knowledge of programming languages like Visual Basic, Java and/or web design techniques a plus
Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent problem‑solving ability and strong communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of tthe database platforms under administration.
- Strong technical aptitude and proven experience managing complex database environments.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and functional areas.
- Sound judgment, strategic thinking, and ability to lead large‑scale technical initiatives.
Certifications:
- Recognized industry accreditation from a reputable organization recommended (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft, AWS, Linux Foundation).
