Responsibilities and Skills required:
- Define, document and clearly articulate database standards, best practices and technology decisions to stakeholders, management and development teams
- Manage and maintain multiple Microsoft SQL Server production environments across on-premises and public cloud infrastructures containing large numbers of databases
- Continuously monitor database performance and health, proactively identify performance bottlenecks and troubleshoot issues using SQL Server internal tools, DMVs and execution plans
- Develop custom alerts and monitoring scripts to detect abnormal database behavior
- Proactively identify potential database issues and implement preventive measures before they impact production systems
- Investigate and resolve complex database performance issues by analyzing query workloads, indexing strategies and system resource usage, applying phased or streaming optimization techniques for queries and data loads to maintain system stability and performance
- Analyze application queries and provide optimization and architectural recommendations to development teams to improve overall system performance
- Provide technical guidance and thought leadership to development teams when designing database schemas, implementing new modules and improving existing systems
- Write, review and optimize complex TSQL queries, stored procedures and database scripts to ensure efficient performance of applications and reports
- Participate in code reviews and ensure database related changes follow established standards and performance best practices
- Plan and execute database upgrades, migrations and patching activities for Microsoft SQL Server environments while minimizing downtime and operational risks
- Design database schemas, tables, indexes and data structures for both new and existing applications
- Install, configure and test new versions of database management systems and related tools
- Manage database backups, high availability configurations, recovery strategies, replication and disaster recovery processes for production environments
- Ensure storage management, data archiving and database maintenance processes are functioning correctly
- Maintain documentation on database standards, architecture, metadata and operational procedures
- Control database access permissions and enforce database security policies
- Communicate regularly with technical teams, developers and clients to ensure database integrity, security and performance
- Attend client meetings, analyze client reported issues, respond to support tickets and provide effective database solutions
- Work collaboratively with developers and internal teams to troubleshoot issues and deliver database related improvements within timelines
Qualifications Required:
- Should possess a bachelor's degree in computer science or Microsoft SQL Server related certifications would be an added advantage
- Minimum of 04 years of industry experience working as a DBA specially with MS SQL server
- Sound knowledge in industry standards and prior experience in implementing the same in production environments and awareness in data backups, recovery, security, integrity and performance optimization at DBA capacity
- Sound knowledge in database design, documentation and TSQL query writing and hands on experience with DBA tools and industry leading third party tools
- Sound problem solving, analytical, leadership and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation) is mandatory
- Familiarity with programming languages and experience on data warehousing and their concepts would be a plus
