What You Will Do:

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary team to deliver robust technical solutions that align with business objectives. You’ll oversee routine operations, ensuring policy compliance and optimal team performance while driving process improvements through data analysis. Leveraging deep technical expertise, you will resolve complex engineering challenges, foster a culture of delivery excellence, and implement effective monitoring strategies. Your role involves mentoring engineers, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, and managing resource allocation to achieve short-term departmental targets. Operating with autonomy, you will balance cost management responsibilities with the development of scalable, reliable, and continuously improved technical platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Team Operations & Performance Management

  • Coordinate daily engineering team activities by setting clear performance metrics and supervising operational workflows to ensure efficiency.

  • Analyse operational and technical data to identify trends, track output against targets, and recommend process improvements within the team.

  • Maintain consistent policy compliance by managing resources, monitoring adherence to established standards, and facilitating corrective action as needed.

Technical Problem Solving & Incident Resolution

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical challenges by applying analytical troubleshooting techniques across multiple engineering domains.

  • Implement structured approaches for identifying root causes and systematically address performance bottlenecks or system failures to sustain reliability.

  • Guide team members through non-routine problem-solving and escalate unresolved issues as necessary to support operational continuity.

Delivery Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive timely delivery of engineering solutions by planning, prioritising, and tracking project progress against established timelines and deliverables.

  • Foster a culture of technical reliability through the implementation of automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and robust code quality standards.

  • Identify and address technical debt, process inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities to enhance delivery velocity and solution quality.

Cross-functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Alignment

  • Facilitate collaboration between engineering, product, and non-technical stakeholders to align technical execution with strategic business objectives.

  • Translate complex engineering concepts into actionable business recommendations and communicate progress to relevant stakeholders.

  • Balance competing priorities across multiple initiatives by coordinating resource allocation and ensuring optimal productivity.

Observability, Monitoring & System Health Assurance

  • Implement and maintain comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and logging systems to ensure visibility into performance and operational health.

  • Build and optimise dashboards to present real-time system metrics, health indicators, and pipeline quality to key stakeholders.

  • Proactively detect and address system issues by leveraging observability tooling and initiating corrective measures to minimise downtime.

Talent Development & Informal Team Leadership

  • Coach and mentor team members by sharing technical expertise and informal leadership to support skills development and knowledge growth.

  • Strong capability to lead teams through ambiguous technical requirements, guiding them to adapt solutions as priorities and information evolve.

  • Hands-on experience with automated delivery pipelines (CI/CD), infrastructure as code, and continuous integration practices to optimise deployment frequency and team productivity.
