Job Description:
The Backup Engineer II is a technical support role responsible for managing and supporting Russell Investments’ data protection environment. This role directly supports critical backup systems across all global Russell Investments’ data centers. The Backup Engineer II partners with leadership in Seattle, WA. Technical knowledge and experience supporting Veritas NetBackup and cloud-based backup services are essential.
Years of Experience
At least 3 years of relevant industry experience
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business or Engineering. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Veritas NetBackup administration
Veritas NetBackup appliance hardware troubleshooting and support
Ransomware appliance management experience
Physical tape library support and administration
Knowledge of compliance reporting of backup operations to meet regulatory requirements
Cloud/SaaS-based backup services (e.g. KeepIT)
Experience in IT service delivery using the ITIL framework
Demonstrated experience working as part of a high performing team
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication and collaboration skills
Ability to communicate complex technical details to all levels of management
Expertise in understanding, setting, and managing customer expectations
Strong organizational skills including the ability to set shifting priorities to meet deadlines
Ability to understand and solve complex problems quickly
Responsibilities
Day-to-day operational support and maintenance (including patching and upgrading) of the data protection environments
Maintains detailed documentation and inventory of all managed environments
Responsible for timely on-call response to incidents
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive company data without exception
Maintain an instant and trending view of the health of the infrastructure
Participate in other IT projects and/or tasks as needed
