Job Description:
The Macro and Credit research team is responsible for rating and recommending investment strategies to both internal and external clients. Strategies range from the full spectrum of fixed income, credit, and macro strategies, both long only and in hedge fund format.
The analyst position in the team will be responsible for working with senior analysts to develop analytical tools and organize data to make data driven assessments of managers.
The analyst will need to build relationships with third party asset managers to gather the necessary data to perform manager research analysis.
The analyst will further be expected to use these tools and data to aid in the assessment of managers, supporting senior analysts globally with the goal of eventually taking over ownership of some sectors of investment ranks.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in a fixed income and ability to undertake qualitative and quantitative analysis of portfolios. Ideally, experience doing analysis of money managers and respective strategies in the fixed-income universe would be an asset. The successful candidate will have strong programming skills in Python and VBA. Strong investment knowledge of fixed income, good data visualisation and excellent communication skills are also a requirement.
This position presents the opportunity to work with a small but experienced team and presents opportunities for future advancement into an investment role.
Years of Experience
Suitable candidates would have at least 3 years of relevant investment experience.
Qualifications / Requirements
• Bachelor's degree minimum with preference for masters. Strong preference for numerate or finance related degree.
• Understanding of investment principles and asset classes.
• Ability to understand and use financial theory and tools. Strong understanding of fixed-income concepts and data.
• Strong quantitative skill set with the ability to analyze complex data.
• Programming experience. Strong Python skills essential. SQL database skills essential. VBA desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail.
• CFA or CAIA charter or progress thereof is desirable.
• Previous experience in portfolio analysis including factor analysis, risk exposures, performance attribution, etc. is desirable.
• Excellent communication skills, curiosity and enthusiasm to learn and grow in the role.
• Self-starter. This role will be supported with nominated main contacts within the team, but team members are remote from India. The ability to work under own recognizance using initiative to network in the organization and find resources to solve problems is essential.
Special Requirements
Time zone flexibility to work with colleagues based in Russell’s different locations globally.
Responsibilities
• Work with team members to define data requirements and build tools to industrialise analytical processes.
• Manage data collection and organisation using existing tools and augmented customised data requests from manager counterparties.
• Create analytical packs for research activities. Provide key insights from analysis of data to help form research agenda. Visualise and contextualise data to illustrate key insights.
• Data analysis: respond to spontaneous requests from stakeholders for specific data insights or reports, present results in a clear and concise manner.
• Preparing supporting content for investment recommendations.
• Creating investment content for internal/external use.
• Liaise with members of the team to determine key priorities and objectives.
• Drive ideas for process improvements.
