Job Description:

This is a Manager role in the India Human Resources Team of Russell Investments. The incumbent will be required to support all aspects of payroll administration for Russell Investments staff in India, reporting to the Global Head of Payroll. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring the firm’s compliance with all applicable local labour laws in partnership with legal and compliance. The role will also provide support for the effective communication, service delivery and administration of the firm’s employee benefits plans and programs in India working closely with the Head of HR in India and the Global Benefits Manager.

Payroll Administration

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing, including salary calculations, deductions, and benefits administration, such as provident fund, insurance, and healthcare plans.
  • Conduct regular payroll audits and ensuring compliance with statutory Indian labour laws & tax regulations.
  • Ensure data integrity and provide support for implementing system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Monitor and resolve payroll discrepancies, investigating and resolving issues promptly and accurately.
  • Generate payroll reports, including tax filings, benefits deductions, provident fund filing, and other required reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Address employee inquiries and concerns related to payroll, providing exceptional service and support.
  • Stay updated on payroll regulations, Indian tax laws and industry trends, implementing necessary changes to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Work with the Global HR Team on projects related to efficiency, and process improvements.
  • Work with finance to carry out all payroll related activities regarding month end and year end close.
  • Coordinate with internal and external audit for the annual payroll audit.

Labor Compliance

  • Apply comprehensive knowledge on Labour Law Compliances to address operational and advisory requirements.
  • Demonstrate expertise on interpretation of various provisions in the law that help define legal interpretation of areas such as wages, time-offs, statutory policies of the organization.
  • Manage the entire Labour Law compliance operation for Russell Investments, India.
  • Responsible for client delivery in terms of turnaround time, Accuracy of interpretation of legal requirements for employees, firm vendors, and service partners.
  • Ensure that the firm is up to date with the labour laws and are through with changes as and when announced.
  • Ensure all legal updates to clients under the various Labour Laws are communicated well in time and advise necessary actions to be taken as appropriate.
  • Ensure accurate response / interpretations for all legal queries raised by clients under various Labour Welfare Legislations, in partnership with external legal counsel and internal legal and compliance teams.

Benefits Administration

  • Enable the successful implementation of India employee benefits plans and programs including but not limited to health, life and accident, wellbeing, retirement and employee perks.
  • Works closely with India senior leadership, HR, and Global Employee Benefits teams to build consensus and support for the India employee benefits and wellbeing strategy.
  • Engages relationships with local consultants, vendors, and peers.
  • Participates in Global Benefits strategy design with HR and Global Employee Benefits to provide recommendations for innovative ways to maximize the value of the India employee benefits package,
  • Works with Leaders, HRBPs and Talent Acquisition to effectively communicate/amplify the organization’s Employee Benefits philosophy and educate team members on the value of Total Rewards.

Required skills and qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, human resources, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in payroll, benefits and/or labour compliance or a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll processes, labour laws, taxation, and statutory compliance in India.
  • Experience in handling payroll audits, inspections, and compliance assessments.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and systems, such as SAP and/or ADP, with experience implementing and managing payroll systems, Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Strong diligence and accuracy in managing complex calculation data.
  • Exceptional communication and people skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees.
  • Elevated level of integrity and ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to adapt to changing labour compliance regulations and implement necessary updates.
  • Ability to work in a matrix organizational structure and be part of a global team environment.
  • Display flexibility with working hours and operate in different time zones, when required.
