The Work You'll Do:

The Vice President, Technology provides strategic, operational and programmatic direction to one or more of our line of businesses through the software engineering, it operations and infrastrcuture organization.

As the business line’s most senior technology leader, our Leader is accountable for overall technology vision and delivery within the line of business. Responsibilities include increasing design practices and innovation throughout the business, executing on the product roadmap in alignment with strategic priorities and leading technology acquisition integration and transformation activities across the business line. Ultimately, the role delivers results across objectives, initiatives, and programs of the engineering teams and greater organization.

This role reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer and is a member of the Technology Leadership Team. The role also interacts with the Sovos Executive Leadership Team.

More specifically, you will:

  • Works alongside the Technology Leadership Team to develop the strategy and supporting initiatives, track key performance indicators, and assures technology plans are consistently executed within a dynamic business environment
  • Participates in critical decisions as a member of the technology leadership team and builds effective relationships with customers, senior executives, key management personnel
  • Leads and manages all aspects of software engineering, customer & user experience, software design, technology platform innovation, data intelligence, technology operations and infrastructure, including objectives and initiatives for each relevant product or service, all aligned to the strategy
  • Constructs reliable control and decision support systems, implements Sovos Best Practices, keeps abreast of critical issues globally, and works with functional management to impact outcomes
  • Reviews financial and performance data with management to achieve budgeted results and effect changes in software engineering and innovation functions
  • Lead the execution and delivery of a holistic technology roadmap for products, capabilities, and services to achieve annual and long-term strategies
  • Work in a consultative fashion with other department heads, such as G&A, sales, marketing, and client operations as an advisor of technologies that may improve their efficiency and effectiveness
  • Develops a world-class technology organization within the business line, drives efficiencies across operational units and assures exceptional client service experiences to achieve customer retention goals and objectives
  • Recruits, hires, and develops high-performing talent and knowledgeable teams utilizing the company’s proven selection methodology, company guidelines, and performance management process
  • Leads and manages work of team, allocates work, and makes decisions regarding employment, performance appraisals, training and development, compensation, promotions, and transfers of talent
  • Establishes systematic management development programs and provides for capable management succession
  • Assumes and executes additional responsibilities as assigned

What We Need From You

  • Minimum 8 to 12 years of progressively responsible technology management experience within a global organization
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, business acumen, executive presence, and ability to empower others to achieve excellence and achieve results
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and negotiating skills to quickly establish rapport and credibility at all levels within client, prospect, partner and Sovos organizations, including C-level.
  • Track record of establishing best-in-class technology processes, driving a commensurate improvement in roadmap delivery and use of innovation
  • Appetite for continuous improvement and optimization; balance of gut-feel judgement and logical analysis; ability to make difficult decisions; a “starter-finisher” in executing initiatives
  • Strong overall work ethic and tolerance for ambiguity with desire to operate in a practical, hands-on environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience implementing or adopting standards in a matrix setting highly desirable
