The Work You'll Do:
As part of Sovos CloudOps/engineering organization, you will be responsible for optimizing the performance and scalability of Sovos Saas offering. You will have many opportunities to bring tremendous impact to our products and customer experience while constantly learning new technology
More specifically you will:

Monitor real-time AWS spending across multiple accounts and services using tools like Cost Explorer, CloudWatch, and third-party platforms
- Identify cost anomalies, usage spikes, and billing discrepancies

Create detailed cost attribution models to track spending by team, project, or business unit

Rightsize EC2 instances based on utilization metrics and performance requirements

Optimize storage costs by analyzing access patterns and recommending appropriate storage classes (S3 IA, Glacier, etc.)

Implement automated shutdown schedules for non-production environments
-
Eliminate orphaned resources like unattached EBS volumes, unused elastic IPs, and idle load balancers

Develop and manage cloud budgets with automated alerting systems
-
Create accurate cost forecasts based on usage trends and business growth projections
-
Establish tagging strategies for cost allocation and chargeback models
-
Negotiate and manage Reserved Instances and Savings Plans portfolios
-
Educate development teams on cost-efficient architecture patterns and best practices
-
Review new service deployments for cost implications before implementation
-
Collaborate with DevOps teams to integrate cost considerations into CI/CD pipelines
Key Resoonsibilities:
- Cost Monitoring & Analysis - Continuously monitor cloud and marketplace spending across all accounts and services, identifying cost trends, anomalies, and optimization opportunities through detailed financial reporting and dashboards
- Cost Optimization Strategy - Partner with development teams and engineering leaders to implement cost reduction initiatives, including rightsizing instances, optimizing storage classes, and eliminating unused resources
- Budget Management & Forecasting - Establish and maintain departmental cloud budgets, create accurate cost forecasts, and provide proactive alerts when spending approaches defined thresholds
- Reserved Instance & Savings Plans Management - Analyze usage patterns to recommend optimal Reserved Instance and Savings Plans purchases, managing renewals and modifications to maximize cost savings
- Cross-Team Collaboration - Work directly with development teams to educate on cost-efficient architectural patterns, implement tagging strategies, and establish cost accountability frameworks
- Financial Reporting & Governance - Create comprehensive cost reports for leadership, establish chargeback/showback models, and develop policies for cloud resource governance and cost control
- Tool Implementation & Automation - Deploy and maintain cost management tools, create automated cost optimization workflows, and integrate financial operations into existing DevOps processes
- Performance vs. Cost Balance - Help teams find the optimal balance between application performance requirements and cost efficiency, ensuring business objectives are met within budget constraints
What We Need from You:

BS in Computer Science with 7 years OR more of experiencein similar activities

High AWS knowledge
-
Passion for identifying and solving monitoring, performance and scalability challenges

Industry experience with SaaS architecture, preferably in the areas of Monitoring, scalability, capacity and performance optimization

Background in high-performance computing, service level objectives (SLOs) and service level indicators (SLIs) to represent and measure service quality and distributed systems

Large scale, distributed software design & development experience in a Unix/Linux environment

Well versed in Performance metrics & algorithms as well as strong analytical and debugging skills
