The Work You'll Do:
The Pre-Sales Engineer will work closely with Direct Sales and Alliance teams to provide technical and regulatory support throughout the sales cycle for Sovos’ tax and compliance technology solutions, with a primary focus on Malaysia.
This role acts as a bridge between Sales, Product, Professional Services, and Support, combining technical expertise with an understanding of Malaysian indirect tax and e-Invoicing requirements. The Pre-Sales Engineer will support customers in designing compliant, scalable solutions aligned with local mandates and modern integration architectures.
More specifically, you will:

Provide technical and domain expertise across Sovos’ tax and compliance technology portfolio

Support customers impacted by Malaysian regulatory requirements, including Sales & Service Tax (SST) and Malaysia e-Invoicing framework (MyInvois)

Maintain a strong understanding of product functionality, technical architecture, and integration models used in tax technology

Participate in customer discovery sessions to understand business processes and transaction flows, ERP and financial system landscapes and compliance, reporting, and audit requirements

Translate regulatory and business requirements into clear, compliant solution designs

Partner with Sales to deliver tailored solution presentations and product demonstrations aligned to Malaysian use cases

Support the creation of high-quality RFP and RFI responses with technical and regulatory input

Collaborate with Product and Professional Services teams to ensure smooth transition from pre-sales to implementation

Maintain and continuously improve demonstration environments reflecting Malaysian tax and e-Invoicing scenarios

Deliver internal and external enablement sessions for Sales teams and partners

Act with integrity and professionalism in all customer and partner interactions

Contribute to continuous improvement of pre-sales processes, tools, and ways of working

Communicate complex tax and technical concepts clearly

Analyse and resolve complex solution and integration challenges

Work effectively with global teams across different time zones

Use technology and internal systems to fulfil daily work requirements
What We Need From You

Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent professional experience

Minimum 1+ year experience in a pre-sales, solution consulting, or technical customer-facing role

Exposure to tax, compliance, finance, or regulatory technology is strongly preferred

Understanding of integration technologies commonly used in tax systems, including:

APIs

File-based integrations (SFTP, AS2)

Structured data formats (XML, JSON, UBL)

Ability to communicate complex regulatory and technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

Collaborative mindset and experience working in cross-functional environments

High standards of professionalism, ethics, and discretion

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Additional language skills are an advantage

Willingness to travel moderately for customer meetings and regional initiatives
