Senior Consultant

Position Overview

The Senior Consultant’s primary responsibility is to assist senior leaders of Sovos’ Unclaimed Property consulting group with field level client work. This involves reviewing records, ledgers, and accounts, suggesting strategies to reduce liability, maintaining project status, and preparing reports. An ideal candidate will have a proficient understanding of unclaimed property compliance, enhanced computer skills, and excellent communication proficiencies.

Job Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to the following:

Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strictest client confidentiality.

Senior Consultants are expected to maintain a client utilization rate of 80% (1,664 hours/year or 416 hours/quarter) calculated as a percentage of total hours available each fiscal year/quarter (2080 hours/year, 520 hours/quarter).

Of the 416 quarterly client utilization hours, 85% (354 hours per quarter) of a Senior Consultant’s time is expected to be attributed to work efforts directly related to fulfilling client billable needs as defined below:

● Work with senior leaders and clients to assist in managing state unclaimed property risk assessments, Voluntary Disclosure Agreements and audits.

● Review client records and other necessary documents to identify and quantify areas of potential noncompliance and risks.

● Document potential exposures via word documents and excel workbooks.

● Work with Project Managers and Sr. Reviewers to develop strategy for mitigating potential liabilities.

● Draft initial version of meeting agendas and minutes and arrange meeting planners.

● Perform initial analysis of General Ledger Chart of accounts and Trial Balances.

● Assist with identifying categories of potential unclaimed property liability.

● Analyze and quantify populations to determine potential liability by property type using Sovos proprietary software programs including UPE, UPET and UPRT.

● Prepare, tract, and provide copies of due diligence letters to clients. Record responses and update unclaimed property lists.

● Prepare, track, and submit state compliance reports to the states and clients using Sovos proprietary software UPRT.

● Assist with quality control review of state reports and due diligence.

● Maintain work paper files between SecureFT platform and internal folders.

● Assist with analysis of company’s existing unclaimed policies and procedures.

● Document client meetings and interviews of accounting personnel.

● Train new employees on client specific work efforts involving industry tools.

● Provide additional support to project leaders as requested.

The remaining 15% of client utilization time (62.5 hours) is focused on required work efforts, not considered client billable, including, but not limited to the following:

● Record time invested in client projects with detailed explanation of work performed by 10:00 am Monday for the preceding week.

● Review time entries on a weekly basis and monthly basis to verify accuracy and completeness of time entries and project comments.

● Inform Sr. Reviewers and Project Managers of timing and budget concerns immediately.

● Participate in training to develop expertise in information security and unclaimed property related fields.

Additional required work efforts, not considered towards client utilization, include but are not limited to the following:

● Maintain personal computer systems and updates as required.

● Internal meetings with Consulting team and others providing unclaimed property support.

● Participation in company-wide programs and meetings.

Organizational Alignment

● Reports to Senior Consulting Manager and Director, Consulting Services

Qualifications

● 5+ years related work experience.

● 3+ years unclaimed property compliance experience.

● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred.

● Good organization and project management skills.

● Effective written and oral communication skills.

● Proficient technology skills (specifically MS Word and Excel).

● Creativity/problem solving ability.

● Ability to read, interpret and gain a basic understanding of various state requirements.

● Team oriented but can work independently if required.

Environmental Job Requirements and Working Conditions

● Primary office location – Philadelphia, PA

● Position requires

o minimal (less than 25%) travel required both domestic and international to Sovos locations and events

● Utilize technology (e.g., phone systems, computer hardware and software applications) to fulfill work requirements

● Normal office activity including, keyboarding, interacting with others, participating in meetings, extended periods of sitting and/or standing in an open office environment

● Visual acuity to read computer screens and written materials

● Ability to work extended hours and weekends on occasion
