The Work You'll Do:
The Regulatory Counsel I (Junior) supports the research and analysis of transaction tax laws around the world. As part of the Regulatory Analysis team, this role helps monitor legislative and regulatory changes and supports the development of tax content used in Sovos’ tax calculation and compliance systems.
This position focuses on learning, supporting the team, and delivering accurate tax research with guidance from more senior team members. The work produced contributes directly to the quality of Sovos’ products and the experience of our customers.

More specifically, you will:
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments related to transaction taxes, with guidance and support from the team
- Help identify how tax law changes may impact Sovos systems and share findings with the Regulatory Content Team
- Support the research and preparation of tax content updates for Sovos systems
- Assist with research related to new content projects
- Use research tools to analyze tax issues and document findings clearly and accurately
- Help explain tax rules in clear and accessible language for both tax and non-tax audiences
- Support responses to internal and client questions related to transaction tax matters
- Assist the Marketing team by contributing to tax-related materials and webinars, when needed
- Support Sales discussions by helping explain tax-related system capabilities
- Work collaboratively with Product Management and Development teams by helping provide tax scenarios and examples
- Participate in team initiatives and training opportunities
- Prepare and participate in client calls with support from senior team members
- Perform other duties as assigned
What We Need From You
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to the bar in at least one state (pending bar admissions are acceptable)
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of legislative tracking and tax research techniques
- General understanding of transaction tax concepts within assigned jurisdictions
- Strong research, analysis, and writing skills
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand tax-related materials
- High attention to detail
- Willingness to learn Sovos products and how tax content supports them
- Additional language skills are a plus
- Minimal travel to Sovos locations or events may be required
