The Work You’ll Do:
Sovos’ Unclaimed Property consulting group helps organizations across the country navigate one of the most complex and often overlooked areas of compliance – and as a Senior Consultant, you’ll be right in the middle of that work. You’ll partner with senior leaders to deliver hands-on client engagements: reviewing records, analyzing liability, managing state relationships, and helping clients build stronger compliance programs. This role is ideal for someone who brings deep unclaimed property knowledge, sharp analytical instincts, and the communication skills to translate complex findings into clear, actionable guidance for clients.
More specifically, you will:
• Work with senior leaders and clients to assist in managing state unclaimed property risk assessments, Voluntary Disclosure Agreements, and audits
• Review client records and other necessary documents to identify and quantify areas of potential noncompliance and risk
• Document potential exposures via Word documents and Excel workbooks
• Work with Project Managers and Senior Reviewers to develop strategies for mitigating potential liabilities
• Draft initial versions of meeting agendas and minutes and arrange meeting planners
• Perform initial analysis of General Ledger Chart of Accounts and Trial Balances
• Assist with identifying categories of potential unclaimed property liability
• Analyze and quantify populations to determine potential liability by property type using Sovos proprietary software programs including UPE, UPET, and UPRT
• Prepare, track, and provide copies of due diligence letters to clients; record responses and update unclaimed property lists
• Prepare, track, and submit state compliance reports to the states and clients using Sovos proprietary software UPRT
• Assist with quality control review of state reports and due diligence
• Maintain work paper files between SecureFT platform and internal folders
• Assist with analysis of the company’s existing unclaimed property policies and procedures
• Document client meetings and interviews with accounting personnel
• Train new employees in client-specific work efforts involving industry tools
• Provide additional support to project leaders as requested
What We Need From You
• 5+ years of related work experience
• 3+ years of unclaimed property compliance experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
• Strong organization and project management skills
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Proficient technology skills, specifically MS Word and Excel
• Creative problem-solving ability
• Ability to read, interpret, and gain a working understanding of various state requirements
• Collaborative team player who can also work independently when needed
• Due to client contractual obligations, the successful candidate will be asked to clear a background check and drug test upon hire
