About you:

We're seeking a Principal Engineer with at least 5 years of experience and a desire to make a difference in our Lightyear product. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll lead our software strategy, providing vision and guidance to drive the SaaS solution to even greater success. Lightyear is a global Software as a Service (SaaS) business focused on developing and building cutting edge fintech products for Businesses, Accountants and Bookkeepers.

This role will focus on building strong partnerships with your engineering and product peers based in UK and Romania.

You will champion a collaborative development approach, driving talent growth, and providing support for excellent engineering practices across our geographically distributed workforce

Day-to-day, you will:

· Take a lead in defining our overall product architecture

· Take ownership of shaping our journey towards an AWS hosted SaaS platform

· Create, review, and maintain required technical documentation

· Contribute to the on-going development of the product

· Develop software using disciplined software development processes, adhering to team/company standards and software best practice guidelines

· Work closely with Agile teams consisting of a Product Owner, Team Lead, Developers and QAs, ensuring that you contribute to all Agile Ceremonies.

· Support and mentor developers, with a focus on adherence to our reference architecture

· Review team pull requests to ensure the highest level of quality is met

· Participate in project planning sessions with team members to analyze development requirements, provide design options, and provide work breakdown and estimates of work.

As a well-rounded Principal Engineer, your Skills and Experiences likely include:

· Highly proficient in Java and Spring Boot

· Highly proficient in defining the architecture of enterprise grade applications

· Highly proficient in at least one database technology, but ideally a mixture of experience between RDBMS and NoSQL

· Highly proficient in Angular

· Expert knowledge of industry standard design and architectural patterns

· Expert in architecting and building AWS based SaaS products

· Expert in architecting high throughput and performant messaging systems between multiple applications

· Expert in security across a range of areas, including UI, APIs, AWS networking

· Expert in building RESTful services

· Expert in building highly performant and scalable applications

· Experience providing technical leadership to a team of developers

· Experience with hosting Java applications in the cloud and/or understanding of different web server technologies

· Experience with Azure DevOps is a plus
