About you:
- You are an experienced Data Engineer, with a track record of successfully implementing complex solutions.
- You have delivered valuable work in diverse, rapidly growing business environments, and with a range of technology appropriately selected for the task at hand.
- In particular, you have experience with Databricks (or similar, e.g., Snowflake) environments.
- You are a pragmatic problem-solver with a bias to action and an appetite for getting things done.
- You’re passionate about data and the ever-evolving technology that is used to leverage it.
- You are a leading voice in solution design/architecture – thinking proactively about how best to position your team for long-term success.
- You interface well with your peers in other data pillars, some of whom are your customers, eg, Data Scientists, Data Architects, Data Analysts.
- You enjoy the “people aspects” of your role, and form good relationships. You are trusted and respected.
You will be joining the newly created Data Excellence team and will form part of a data-driven Sales & Marketing organisation, working to provide actionable insight and predictive power across a wide range of Access products through data and systems integration. You will work closely with Data Scientists and AI Engineers to build robust solutions that have a measurable impact in a fast growing global organisation.
Day-to-day, you will:
- Data Infrastructure Development: Design and build robust data ingestion pipelines, transformation workflows, and reusable data products across our internal systems and product suites.
- Technical Leadership: Serve as the technical authority for data engineering within the team, providing guidance on architecture decisions, best practices, and emerging technologies.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Data Scientists and AI Engineers to understand their data requirements and build infrastructure that enables advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives.
- Pipeline Engineering: Develop and maintain sophisticated ELT/ETL processes that handle complex data structures, real-time streaming, and batch processing requirements across diverse data sources.
- Platform Optimization: Continuously improve data platform performance, scalability, and reliability while managing costs and ensuring optimal resource utilization.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders, translating their data requirements into technical solutions and becoming a trusted data infrastructure partner.
- Knowledge Sharing: Contribute heavily to a culture of knowledge sharing both within the data team and across the broader organization, mentoring colleagues and documenting best practices.
- Data Quality & Governance: Implement and maintain data quality frameworks, monitoring systems, and governance processes to ensure data integrity and compliance delivery of efficient solutions.
Your Knowledge and Skills will include:
- Modern Data Platforms: Extensive experience with contemporary data warehousing and analytics tools, particularly Databricks.
- Programming Expertise: Excellent ability to develop, test, and maintain complex data pipeline code using Python and PySpark for large-scale data processing.
- Advanced SQL: Expert-level skills in designing and executing complex SQL queries for ELT processes, data transformation, and analytics across large datasets.
- Cloud Platform Experience: Deep expertise with cloud platform tools and services, particularly Azure.
- Complex Data Processing: Proven ability to process and transform complex data structures including highly nested JSON, XML, and other semi-structured formats.
- Data Governance & Privacy: Expert understanding of requirements related to storage, management, and processing of personal data as they pertain to cloud data platform design and compliance.
- Change Data Capture: Substantial knowledge of CDC technologies and streaming data processing for building efficient, real-time data solutions.
- Performance Optimization: Experience with query optimization, pipeline performance tuning, and cost management in cloud data environments.
Nice to Have:
- Azure Data Engineering certification, particularly with Databricks specialization.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (Terraform, ARM templates), and automated deployment processes.
- Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, or similar streaming technologies.
- Data Modelling: Understanding of dimensional modelling, data vault methodology, and modern data architecture patterns.
- Experience with data pipeline monitoring, alerting, and observability tools.
- Experience with machine learning pipeline infrastructure and MLOps practices.
- Knowledge of data mesh architecture and domain-driven data design principles.
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) for data workloads.
- Understanding of data lake and lakehouse architecture patterns.
- Experience with API development and data service creation.
