Construction companies used to use manual administration and physical paperwork for projects (sometimes hundreds of thousands of bits of paperwork for one project!). We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will oversee complex accounting tasks, ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, and play a key role in maintaining the financial health of the organization. This position is critical for compliance with regulatory standards for multiple legislations. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities to interact effectively with stakeholders and internal teams.

What your day will look like

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    · Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance
    with GAAP/IFRS
    · Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts
    · Conduct variance analysis to identify trends and provide insights
    General Ledger Management:
    · Oversee and manage the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely entries
    · Reconcile accounts, including accruals, payroll and intercompany accounts
    · Ensure all transactions are recorded in accordance with accounting principles and
    company policies
    Regulatory Compliance:
    · Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal tax regulations
    · Manage the preparation and submission of tax returns, including VAT, GST, or
    equivalent
    · Assist with audits, including external, internal, and tax audits
    Internal Controls and Process Improvement:
    · Develop and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets
    · Identify inefficiencies in processes and propose (group wide) solutions for improvement
    · Set up efficient and effective month end closing process
    · Assist in the implementation of new accounting systems or tools
    Team Leadership and Mentorship:
    · Provide guidance and training to junior accounting staff
    · Review work prepared by other team members for accuracy and compliance
    · Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
    · Act as a liaison between departments to ensure seamless financial operations
    Other Duties:
    · Support ad-hoc financial projects as needed
    · Collaborate with cross-functional teams for special initiatives

What you need to fulfill the role

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Business, or related field; advanced degree or certification (e.g., CFA, CPA) is a plus
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles
  • Proven track record in preparing financial statements and managing audits
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. High attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Experience in a senior accounting or supervisory role is highly desirable
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in English (spoken and written); German is a plus
  • Proficient in Accounting Software and Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiarity with Oracle Netsuite and ERP implementation is a plus, as is experience in SAAS industry
