Mission

Lead and evolve Thinkproject’s DevOps and cloud platform capabilities to enable secure, reliable, and efficient software delivery across engineering teams. The role owns the strategy, governance, delivery and continuous improvement of CI/CD platforms, infrastructure automation, observability, and security practices supporting Thinkproject products.

The DevOps Manager (f/m/d) is accountable for the reliability and operational readiness of delivery platforms and production environments across cloud and co-location infrastructures, ensuring systems operate with high availability and resilience on a 24×7 basis.

Working closely with Engineering, Security, Product, and Operations stakeholders, the role establishes scalable DevOps standards, release governance, and platform capabilities that enable consistent, secure, and efficient product delivery while meeting organisational compliance and operational requirements.

Main responsibilities

DevOps Platform Strategy & Delivery: Own and evolve Thinkproject’s DevOps platform strategy to enable secure, scalable, and reliable software delivery across engineering teams. Lead the design and continuous improvement of CI/CD capabilities using Azure DevOps, Infrastructure-as-Code, and cloud-native tooling, establishing standardised pipeline templates, deployment models (blue/green, canary), and automated rollback mechanisms that support consistent and efficient product releases.

Infrastructure & Cloud Platform Governance: Oversee the architecture and operation of cloud and infrastructure platforms across Azure and co-location environments. Establish and enforce Infrastructure-as-Code standards using tools such as Terraform to ensure consistent, secure, and scalable infrastructure provisioning while maintaining reliability, cost efficiency, and operational resilience across all environments.

Release Governance & Operational Reliability: Establish and maintain release management standards and operational practices that support predictable and reliable software delivery. Ensure delivery platforms and production environments operate with high availability and resilience, coordinating incident response, operational readiness, and continuous improvement activities through monitoring, post-incident reviews, and reliability engineering practices.

AI-Enabled DevOps & Platform Automation: Drive the adoption of AI-assisted engineering and platform automation capabilities across the DevOps ecosystem. Identify and implement opportunities to leverage AI agents and intelligent automation to improve software delivery, operational monitoring, incident management, and developer productivity. Work closely with engineering and platform teams to integrate emerging AI tooling into CI/CD workflows, operational processes, and platform services, helping evolve traditional DevOps practices toward AI-augmented delivery and operations.

DevSecOps & Compliance Integration: Ensure security and compliance controls are embedded throughout the software delivery lifecycle, integrating security scanning, static code analysis, and software composition analysis tools such as SonarQube and Black Duck into CI/CD pipelines. Work closely with Security and compliance stakeholders to ensure DevOps platforms and processes align with organisational security frameworks and regulatory requirements.

Observability & Platform Performance: Drive the implementation and continuous improvement of monitoring, logging, and observability capabilities across delivery platforms and production systems using tools such as Azure Monitor, Application Insights, New Relic, or Datadog. Define and monitor reliability metrics and service-level indicators to ensure operational visibility and platform performance.

Team Leadership & Engineering Collaboration: Lead and develop the DevOps / Platform Engineering team with direct line management responsibility, including mentoring, coaching, performance management, and long-term career development of team members. Foster strong collaboration across Engineering, Security, Product, and Operations stakeholders while promoting DevOps best practices, improving developer experience through platform enablement, and building a culture of automation, reliability, accountability, and continuous improvement across the software delivery ecosystem.

What you need to fulfill the role

Experience (Technical / Leadership)

  • 12+ years of overall experience in software engineering, DevOps, SRE, or cloud infrastructure roles. At least 5+ years in dedicated DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering roles working on public cloud platforms, with 2+ years of leadership or formal line management responsibility within DevOps or platform engineering teams supporting multiple engineering teams.
  • Experience working in product-based software organisations is preferred, particularly in environments supporting globally distributed engineering teams and collaborating across multiple development squads to deliver and operate shared DevOps platforms and production systems.
  • Experience managing cloud-native infrastructure on Microsoft Azure, including operating production workloads and platform services in Azure environments. Experience with additional public cloud platforms such as GCP / AWS is considered an advantage.
  • Experience operating and supporting high-availability production environments, including incident response coordination, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement of operational reliability through monitoring, automation, and post-incident reviews.
  • At least 3+ years of hands-on experience working with Kubernetes-based container platforms, including deploying, operating, and troubleshooting containerised workloads in production environments.
  • Proven track record owning and evolving CI/CD and IaC pipelines that enable reliable, secure, and scalable software delivery across multiple products or engineering squads, using tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.

Functional & Technical Expertise

  • Cloud Platform & Infrastructure: Strong understanding of the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, including networking, identity and access management, compute platforms, storage services, and cloud governance capabilities used to support scalable and secure production environments. Familiarity with edge and traffic management platforms such as Cloudflare is advantageous.
  • Container Platform & Orchestration: Strong understanding of Kubernetes-based container platforms, including container lifecycle management, workload orchestration, deployment strategies, and the operational considerations required to run containerised applications in production environments. Knowledge of service mesh technologies such as Istio, Kubernetes cluster lifecycle management, cluster upgrades, and operating multiple clusters at scale is required.
  • Software Delivery Platform (CI/CD): Strong competencies in modern CI/CD platform capabilities supporting automated build, test, and deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps or Jenkins, GitHub Actions. Understanding of branching and merging strategies, pipeline governance, and build agent infrastructure required to support scalable delivery platforms across multiple engineering teams.
  • Infrastructure Automation & IaC: Proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code and automation practices, including the use of tools such as Terraform to provision and manage cloud infrastructure, environments, and platform components through modular and repeatable infrastructure designs.
  • Observability & Platform Reliability: Strong knowledge of platform observability practices, including monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational visibility using tools such as New Relic, Datadog, Azure Monitor, or similar platforms to support reliability engineering and incident response.
