Overview

This is Database Administrator I role that will be focused on providing daily operational services while growing database administrations skills and knowledge. This role will be focused on database administrative fundamental skills and processes until mastery is displayed. The fundamental skills and processes will be updating and building out documentation, basic database administration troubleshooting, communication and collaboration, and training. Daily team and client interaction will be expected.

Responsibilities

  • Build, patch, maintain, and deprovision database solutions.
  • Build and implement High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions to ensure data reliability and continuity.
  • Manage and monitor databases to ensure optimal performance, availability, and security.
  • Perform regular database maintenance tasks, such as manage access, index rebuilding, query optimization, and database tuning.
  • Basic troubleshooting of database solutions and engaging peer teams when needed.
  • Provides quality customer service that meets TierPoint expectations.
  • Respond to database related alerts and escalations.
  • Manage ticket queue and provide understandable communication in tickets until resolution.
  • Work with clients and developers to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems.
  • Contribute to on-call rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 1 plus years of experience in an IT infrastructure administration role.
  • Basic understanding of Virtualization.
  • Basic knowledge in general IT infrastructure troubleshooting and a logical thought process.
  • Ability to detect and troubleshoot Windows OS CPU, Memory Pressure, disk space and other resource contention.
  • Basic familiarity with PowerShell.
  • Basic knowledge of High Availability and Disaster Recovery.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL Studio and running queries
  • Ability to manage and execute projects including SQL Server installation and asset auditing.
  • Basic understanding of RDMS including MSSQL & MySQL.
  • Great attention to detail and ability to own issues/projects and see them through to their resolution.
  • Good client management skills including written and verbal communication.
  • The ability to communicate complex issues and ideas in understandable terms.
  • Basic understanding Security Best Practices.
  • Conceptual understanding of backups, restores, recovery models and database maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to own on-call and off hours responsibilities. Knows when to escalate to more senior staff.
  • Solid acquaintance with windows server, security delegation, Service Principal Names, storage components.
  • Documentation skills for processes and procedures (creating KBs, run books, topology etc.)
  • Team oriented. Driven to communicate and work with all the teams. Willing to jump in to assist with issues and projects.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to own issues/projects and see them through to their resolution.

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Basic experience in Database Administration in SQL Server
  • Basic Experience in Database Administration in MySQL
  • Basic knowledge of Public Cloud and hypervisor principles. (Azure, AzureStack, VMware, Nutanix, AWS)
  • Basic experience in a scripting language like PowerShell

It’s important to note the pay range may be narrower than displayed, as various factors are used to determine the offered compensation package including skill set, level of experience, geographic locations, and other relevant factors- i.e. budgetary requirements.
Pay Range $60,000.00 - $97,778.29
