About the Company

Tungsten Automation is a U.S.-headquartered technology company with subsidiaries and customers around the world. Our core product is a leading SaaS workflow automation platform used by organizations to streamline complex business processes. As part of our continued growth, we are expanding our product portfolio to include innovative payment services functionality, creating new opportunities and regulatory challenges across global markets.

To support this expansion, we are seeking a Regulatory Counsel with experience in fintech, payments, or financial services regulation to join our legal team.

Job Purpose

This role will focus on regulatory matters related to payments, fintech, and financial services across multiple jurisdictions. You will work closely with Product, Risk, Compliance, and other business teams to enable compliant product development and well-coordinated international expansion. The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating in a fast-paced, global SaaS enterprise supported by partners in highly-regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide practical legal guidance on the design, development, launch and ongoing support of payment-related products and features that do not fall within the scope of financial services regulations.
  • Advise on regulatory frameworks applicable to payments, fintech, and financial services.
  • Monitor and interpret evolving regulatory developments in the UK, EU, U.S., and other geographies with the assistance of outside counsel, and assess their impact on business operations and product strategy.
  • Support the development, implementation, and oversight of policies and governance frameworks governing payment processing activities, working closely with compliance, risk, and product teams to ensure regulatory alignment.
  • Support market entry and product expansion in new jurisdictions with regulatory analysis.
  • Collaborate with compliance, risk, product, and engineering teams to embed regulatory guardrails and requirements into workflows and product design.
  • Engage with external counsel, regulators, and industry bodies as needed.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements with vendors and customers, and internal policies related to payments, financial services, and regulatory compliance.

While the job description describes what is anticipated as the requirements of the position, the job requirements are subject to change based upon any changing needs and requirements of the business.

Required Skills

Skills and Experience

  • Law degree and qualification to practice in at least one jurisdiction (UK, EU member state, or U.S. state).
  • 3–5 years of relevant legal experience, ideally in fintech, payments, financial services regulation, or technology-focused regulatory work.
  • Strong knowledge of payments and financial services regulatory frameworks, such as PSD2/PSD3, E-Money regulations, AML/KYC, consumer protection, and data protection.
  • Experience advising product and business teams in a fast-moving, technology-driven environment.
  • Experience in negotiating technology agreements with vendors and customers.
  • Provide legal support on a cross-functional basis to other lines of business and corporate activities as needed, including general commercial, product, and operational matters outside the payments and financial services regulatory scope.
  • Ability to provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice.
  • Excellent communication, drafting, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfort working across time zones in a global organization.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Domestic and international travel may be required from time to time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-house legal experience at a fintech, payments company, or SaaS provider is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience working with regulators in the UK, EU, or U.S.
  • Familiarity with global payments infrastructure, card networks, and alternative payment methods.
  • Utilizes AI-enabled tools (e.g., chatbots, documentation automation, analytics assistants) to improve efficiency, accuracy, and streamline routine tasks while following company AI governance and data privacy standards
  • Skills in prompting AI systems and assessing output quality
  • Ability to leverage AI to ideate, develop and scale to the needs of the department

  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • Flexible hybrid or fully remote working arrangements.
  • Opportunity to play a key role in building and scaling a global payments offering.
