Part-time up to 34.4hours

The New Opportunity

REFOCUS Identified Community and Kinship Carer Assessor is passionate about supporting children and young people to remain connected to family, culture and community. In this rewarding role, you’ll bring the five elements of the Child Placement Principle to life by working closely with potential foster and kinship carers throughout the assessment journey. You’ll conduct thorough home assessments in line with the departmental Home Assessment Guide, complete interviews and references, and produce high‑quality, comprehensive assessment reports. Your expertise will help ensure placement assessments carefully match children and young people with carers whose skills, strengths and environments best support their safety, wellbeing and long‑term outcomes.

Pay and conditions

Hourly pay rates range from:

$43.00 – $48.00 per hour, subject to Award Rate [MA000100] plus super; and applicable loadings apply.

Classification level and pay rate are assessed and determined based on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated capability.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who can: Implement the 5 elements of the Child Placement Principle

Meet with potential foster carers and working with them through the assessment process

Complete home assessments following the departmental Home Assessment Guide

Interview and completing references

Complete comprehensive assessment reports

Complete placement assessment to provide appropriate placement for children and young people, where their needs are matched to the foster carers skill and environment

Attend ongoing training and refresher sessions to maintain skills and qualifications, including cultural awareness, mental health, CPR and first aid.

Qualification & Experience

Diploma or Degree in Community/Social Services and/or a minimum 1 year of experience writing assessments for foster and kinship care

Training and support

Practitioners will receive intensive training in policies, procedures, and best practice. Ongoing supervision, mentoring, and professional development are core to this role.

Additional requirements

You must hold a drivers licence (minimum green P’s)

You must hold a current Blue Card (Working with Children Clearance).

Capacity and willingness to pass a Child Safety and Personal History Screening.

You must work within the 10 Child Safe Standards.
